About me

Hi, I’m Lucy. Thanks for reading my profile. I offer online sessions U.K wide and in person appointments in Dunfermline, Fife.

A wee bit about my approach - I’m not going to tell you what to do. Force you to speak. Or fill your silence. I won’t tell you to stop using your coping strategies. But if you’re struggling with low mood, identity, or relationships, there are lots of things I WILL do. Like meeting you wherever you are in life, without judgement. Getting in the trenches with you. Helping you unpack your biggest challenges and empowering you to find your strength.

First and foremost, I’ll offer a safe space where I’ll listen closely to your unique needs. I use a Pluralistic perspective – drawing from the most appropriate parts of Person-Centred, Psychodynamic, and Cognitive Behavioural therapies. In my experience, this space is where golden moments happen. Those wee rays of light leading to big breakthroughs in empowerment and personal growth.

Thanks loads for reading this far. At this point, I should probably tell you who I work with! They’re teens and adults. Many of whom have experienced trauma and are living with mental health challenges, low self-esteem, self-harm, and identity issues. Relationships are at the core of ALL these experiences. Relationships with yourself. With the important people in your life. With roles, food, money, substances, and coping strategies. Together, we’ll look at these relationships with fresh eyes. And find ways to make them healthier. I’ll do my utmost to make you feel safe, supported, and comfortable. I look forward to creating the right space for you to explore whatever it is that brings you to counselling. Together, we’ll offload your worries, uncertainty, fear, pain, frustration, shame, loss, and anger. And we’ll work through all these issues at your own pace. One. Step. At. A. Time.

Training, qualifications & experience

I’m trauma-informed, offering compassion and empathy in my practice. I believe that by creating a unique, safe, and confidential space, you’ll feel comfortable to share whatever you need to bring to counselling, and confident I will listen.

I hold a Diploma in Counselling and am committed to continued personal development, having completed a Cert in Relationship Counselling with Relationships Scotland (allowing me to work with couples). I also ensure my ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) and Mental Health First Aid courses are regularly updated, which provides me with the skills to effectively support individuals experiencing low mood and suicidal thoughts.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

First Session:

Following your introduction session, we’ll agree next steps, arranging your counselling sessions at times that best suit you, and as frequently as required.

I will work collaboratively and flexibly with you to create a safe space to discover what will be helpful and meaningful for you at this time. We’ll do this by exploring options from different types of therapy, based on your needs and preferences, whilst drawing on our combined knowledge and life experience.

During your first session, I’ll firstly cover confidentiality and safety. Then we’ll work together to identify goals for your counselling. Next, we’ll explore what approaches will be best suited for you, allowing space to fully explore feelings and emotions you are experiencing. We’ll agree timescales for reviews to allow us to reflect and shape future sessions, working collaboratively and at a pace that feels right for you.
