About me

We all hit low points in our lives from time to time, but when these low points start to become the norm, that’s when it’s time to talk. Does this sound familiar? If so, counselling could help you.

I specialise in psychodynamic counselling and help people with a variety of issues: anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), post-natal depression, anger, relationship issues and bereavement counselling. I’ve been a counsellor for 15 years which has given me a huge amount of one-to-one experience with people struggling in just the same way you might be. I also have a great deal of ‘life experience’ which contributes to my ability to empathise with your individual situation.

My clinic is a safe, calm and welcoming space where you will feel completely relaxed and able to freely explore and express your feelings. I have years of experience working in the Luton and Bedfordshire area with clients from many different cultures and backgrounds.

What is psychodynamic counselling and how might you benefit?

It’s a form of talking therapy which aims to bring the unconscious mind into the conscious. It’s based on the theory that the unconscious mind holds many deep-rooted feelings which are too painful for the conscious to process. As a result, we suppress them and, as time goes by, we create defence mechanisms to avoid having to confront them. However, this defence system creates problems of its own which can lead to episodes of depression.

By working with you to unravel and understand your unconscious emotions, I can help you address longstanding issues which are holding you back and preventing you from achieving your true potential. Many of my clients report a rapid improvement in their levels of anxiety and overall mood. I truly believe there is light at the end of the tunnel for everybody.

How does the process work?

I see all clients for an initial assessment session. This is where we get a feel for each other and the way I work and afterwards, you can decide if you’re happy to continue. Psychodynamic counselling aims to resolve issues as quickly and as thoroughly as possible so I can usually give clients a rough idea of how many sessions they may need once the initial assessment is completed.

All sessions last for 50 minutes.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
