About me

Choosing to begin counselling can feel like a significant step, and finding a therapist you feel comfortable with is just as important. My aim is to provide a warm, non-judgemental and confidential space where you feel heard, understood and supported to explore whatever has brought you to therapy.

I am a qualified counsellor (Level 7, University of Salford), a registered member of the BACP (MBACP), and fully insured. My practice is grounded in Person-Centred Therapy while also drawing on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Transactional Analysis, and Psychodynamic thinking. This integrative approach allows me to tailor therapy to your individual needs, recognising that no two people experience life in the same way.

I work with adults and young people aged 16 and over. Through my clinical training and ongoing practice, I have supported a range of clients with anxiety (including Generalised Anxiety Disorder and Social Anxiety), depression and low mood, addiction, bereavement, loneliness, family and relationship issues, domestic and sexual abuse, and neurodivergence. Alongside my qualification, I continue to develop my practice through ongoing clinical work and professional development as I work towards full accreditation.

My decision to become a counsellor is deeply personal. Growing up as a Black British Caribbean woman in the UK has been challenging. Struggling with a sense of self (identity), self- confidence, owning my blackness, and the list goes on. I know my story is unique to me but not a unique experience; it's a universal feeling that many can relate to. Navigating it has often felt lonely and challenging, and I didn't have a space to discuss those conflicting feelings until I started this journey. Becoming a counsellor now gives me the opportunity to offer others the space I didn't have a space where you can explore your thoughts, emotions and experiences without judgement.

In many cultures, discussing personal or family matters outside the home can be discouraged, leaving people to navigate life's challenges alone. My hope is to provide a safe, accepting and non-judgemental space where anyone, regardless of their race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, faith or ability, feels welcomed, heard and respected.

I also recognise that representation matters. There are still relatively few Black counsellors within the profession, and if that has been part of your search, I understand the significance of finding someone with whom you feel comfortable and represented. While my lived experience shapes who I am as a therapist, my practice is open to everyone seeking a safe and supportive space.

As your counsellor, I don't believe my role is to tell you what to do or make decisions for you. Instead, I will walk alongside you, helping you make sense of your thoughts, emotions and behaviours so you can better understand yourself and move towards the changes that matter to you. Person-Centred values remain at the centre of my work, meaning you set the pace and bring what feels most important, while I support, gently challenge where appropriate, and offer interventions that best meet your needs.

I understand the trust needed to enter into a therapeutic relationship, and it is a responsibility I never take lightly. If we choose to work together, I will offer you a compassionate, confidential and collaborative space where you can show up exactly as you are. All I ask is that you come with a willingness to engage in the process we'll do the work together.

Alongside my counselling practice, I have trained in Family Mediation and have a particular interest in relationship and couples work. Although I do not currently offer couples counselling, I work with individuals experiencing relationship difficulties and plan to undertake specialist couples therapy training in the near future.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
