About me
Sometimes life can be a little overwhelming, particularly now.
Over my 25 plus years as a BACP accredited counsellor working in Hitchin SG5 with couples, individuals, young people, and students in counselling trainings, I know that stuff happens, and naturally, our relationships sometimes have trouble keeping up.
I have worked in GP practices and voluntary organisations both as counsellor and supervisor, and been in private practice since 1997. I worked with Relate for three years, and have 25 years of working with both individuals and couples, including eight years as an Axa ICAS counsellor.
I have also worked extensively for other Employee Assistance Programs, where I had experience dealing with short term solution focused interventions to deal with specific issues when necessary. However, long term change is often best brought about through longer term work.
Together we have an opportunity to explore how you may have come to view your life. Although I will not tell you what to do, I will encourage you to find your own insights so that you can find more successful ways of resolving your difficulties.
I work with relationship difficulties and breakdown, relationship enrichment, depression, anxiety, anger, a sense of futility or defeat, frustrated expectations, substance dependence, loss, work related difficulties, stress, parenting issues, low self esteem and self confidence, and issues around abuse and boundary setting.
My primary training is both psychodynamic and person-centered. Both this training and my human experience of living as a member of a family and community enrich and inform our work.
Do email me and leave a message and we can get started.
Whilst few people relish the idea of therapy, it is just possible that we might enjoy our work together!
Training, qualifications & experience
Having spent some years volunteering and training with Relate, I have a Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling with the Westminster Pastoral Foundation, and have diversified what I can offer with a Post Graduate Diploma from the University of Hertfordshire.
I am a BACP accredited counsellor - this is a post qualification accreditation that requires consistent development, both personal and professional.
I meet with colleagues on a regular basis for ongoing professional development and skill sharing, as well as seeking ongoing professional development as part of my commitment to your work. And also because I like it.
In addition to my private practice I have volunteered as a supervisor with Hitchin Counselling Service and worked for ten years with the then pioneer organisation Axa ICAS offering workplace counselling for employees, from legal counsel and medical practitioners, to educationalists and creatives, and to lorry drivers and local authority employees. E mail me preferentially.
I welcome and enjoy diversity and variety in my work.
Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
