About me

Hi, I’m Lizi, founder of tbh… therapy & counselling. There is a myriad of reasons that have prompted you to take the first, courageous step of researching the right therapist for you.

You may be hurting; let down or disappointed by the relationships in your life, either romantic or familial? Struggling with bereavement, loss, infidelity or consensual non-monogamy.

Or perhaps you are feeling hindered; a sense of stuckness’, overwhelm or anxiety. Struggling to progress, held back by your limiting self-beliefs.

Or hassled; that everything is too much, wrestling with stress and depression or overcome with a new or awaiting an ADHD diagnosis.

Or harmed; have you been harmed by another, either psychologically or physically or are your behaviours causing you unease or suffering?

Any of these can apply to you as an individual or as a couple / your relationship.

If any of this sounds relatable, then perhaps therapy might help.

I would welcome the opportunity to talk with you and offer you the opportunity to be honest about all that you are going through.

Together we could unfurl an understanding of your lived experience and find an explanation for how your past might be impacting you today. With this new insight and self-awareness, we hope to empower you to strive for change.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a developmentally based, relationship-focused (Integrative) therapeutic counsellor qualified to Post Graduate Diploma level (Level 7) and a registered member of BACP (MBACP: 411478). Furthermore, I have undertaken a bespoke couples counselling qualification enabling me to work in person with adult couples. Additionally, I have a MSc (Level 7) in Psychology, with a research special interest in grief, bereavement and trauma.

In order to maintain my BACP registration I attend regular continual personal development, necessary to ensure that I am up to date with the latest research, insight and client interventions. This means that I am able to support you and / or your partner with all that is brought into session.

I have experience working with men and women, aged 18 to 80! Unsurprisingly their reasons for coming into therapy are varied.

I have worked with issues relating to;

  • ADHD in women
  • Trauma
  • Bereavement & Grief
  • Personality Disorders
  • Sexual assault
  • Relationship Complexities, including; infidelity, heartbreak & ethical non-monogamy
  • Family dynamics/conflict/estrangement
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Self-esteem doubts
  • Auto-immune conditions (endometriosis, IBD, fibromyalgia)
  • Mind:Body connections

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

I offer an initial 15-minute phone call (free of charge). When you make contact, we can chat briefly about what brings you / your relationship into therapy and whether this is something I might be able to help you with.

I mainly work from a warm, confidential space in Derby (DE1). There is free, off street parking, toilets and disabled access.

Additionally, I am able to offer online and telephone sessions.

Our first session is an initial assessment, this enables me to find out a little more about your history, your life today and your wishes for therapy. This will enable us to determine whether we are the right therapeutic fit for each other. For you to decide whether it feels comfortable to work with me and for me to ascertain whether I am the right therapist for you.

We will then agree a session time and day, weekly or fortnightly and this will be your time thereafter.
