MBACP Counsellor & Clinical Supervisor

About me

Hi, I’m Lisa, a Humanistic Integrative Counsellor.

Life can be challenging and at times we all need a safe space to explore our thoughts and feelings without judgment. I offer a warm, compassionate and confidential environment, whether that’s in a therapy room, online, or out in nature through walk and talk sessions.

I believe that if you can begin to accept what’s come before, even the painful or confusing parts, you can find more freedom to move forward. You cannot change the past and you cannot know what the future holds, but learning to be present with yourself, here and now, is where real change can begin.

In our work together, I will be genuine, empathic and accepting of whatever you bring to sessions. You won’t be judged or rushed. This is your space to explore what’s going on for you, at your own pace and to enable you to become more present, more self-compassionate and more connected to who you are.

How I Work

I work primarily from a Person-Centred foundation, which means I believe you are the expert in your own life. My role is to walk alongside you as you explore your inner world, helping you to reconnect with your own wisdom and resilience.

While Person-Centred therapy is at the core of my approach, I also draw on broader humanistic perspectives, integrating elements from other modalities when and only if it supports your process. Everything I do is tailored to your needs and preferences.

I support adults with a wide range of issues, some of which include anxiety, low self-esteem, loss and bereavement, identity questions and feeling stuck or overwhelmed. My aim is to create a relationship where you feel safe, seen, truly heard and supported as you find your own way forward. I am also committed to ongoing learning, personal development, and professional supervision.

What to Expect

Sessions are a space for you, free from expectations or pressure. We will go at a pace that feels right for you and what we talk about is guided by what feels most important or helpful to you in the moment. My approach is fundamentally non-directive.

Whether you prefer in-person, online, or outdoor therapy, we will find a way of working that feels comfortable and supportive for you.

Walk and Talk Therapy

For those who feel more at ease in nature, being outdoors can create a more relaxed, spacious environment that helps you open up, process emotions, and feel more grounded. I have access to open fields near where I live.

Walking side by side, rather than sitting face to face can sometimes make it easier to explore difficult feelings or thoughts. It can be especially helpful if you are feeling stuck, anxious, or disconnected. Sessions take place at a gentle pace and I will always prioritise your comfort and confidentiality.

If this way of working appeals to you, I can discuss it during your initial consultation to see if it’s a good fit.

About Me

My own life experiences shaped my decision to become a counsellor. I understand how difficult it can be to reach out for support and how important it is to feel truly heard. This path felt like a natural choice for me and I have always found it a privilege to walk alongside others as they find their own way forward. Living in a rural community and being married to a dairy farmer has also given me insight into the impact of isolation and reduced access to support that is often experienced in farming and rural life.

I also have four years of experience in teaching counselling courses, which has been both rewarding and challenging.

I believe that challenging ourselves helps us to grow and develop as individuals. Ultimately, my passion is to help others recognise what they cannot see in themselves and help facilitate positive change to increase self-belief and resilience to be able to live a fuller, functioning life that is full of your own choices.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
