About me

I’m Lauren, a curious, open-minded counsellor and psychotherapist. Alongside my client work, I lecture in counselling and psychotherapy - a role that keeps me immersed in new ideas and reflective practice, and deepens my understanding of what truly supports people in therapy.

What I’m most interested in, though, is you - what has brought you here, and how I might be able to help.

I could say that I offer a "safe space"... but feeling safe is something that can take time.  Together, we'll move at a pace that feels right for you.

What I can promise is warmth, respect, and genuine care as we build a working relationship that supports you, as you explore whatever has brought you here.

My Approach

I’m a person-centred therapist. In simple terms, this means I believe that you know yourself best. Even if you don’t feel like yourself right now, or doubt that inner knowing, I trust that with time - and the right therapeutic relationship - you can reconnect with what you need.

My role is to offer the support and space that help you find your way back to yourself. I bring curiosity and care to our work, aiming to understand the world from your point of view and to shape our sessions around what feels most helpful for you.

How I can help

There could be a number of reasons that have brought you here.

Maybe you’ve lost yourself within a current relationship or family role and need space to explore who you are and how you communicate that to those around you.

Perhaps you have lost your confidence or self-esteem and need to find your way back to yourself or a way forward to a new chapter of your life.

You might need an inclusive and affirmative space to explore parts of your identity.

It could be that you have something specific you’d like to talk about, such as a bereavement or loss, or an event from the past you’d like to explore in more depth.

Or maybe you don’t know what it is, but you know you just don’t feel right. And that’s okay too.

Only you can know who is the right therapist for you. It is important that you find someone you click with and can begin to trust.  I am always happy to offer an initial telephone or online call to see if I am the right fit for you before you book your first session.

I can’t promise therapy will be easy, but I'm sure you already know that. What I can promise is that it is my job to listen to you in a way that family and friends, as much as they care about you, can’t. I want you to feel seen and heard, without judgement. Getting to know yourself deeply can feel like scary stuff, but it can change your life.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

There are some steps at the front of the building. My room is also on the 1st floor and there is unfortunately no lift available. I can offer online sessions for those who would otherwise be unable to access the building.
