Person-Centred & Integrative Counsellor (MBACP)

About me

Hi I'm Lauren and thank you for taking the time to have a read as I know just how nerve-wracking it can feel when considering/ starting counselling.

My counselling sessions aren't just nods and awkward moments of constantly asking “so how does that make you feel?"

It’s down to earth, real talk, and a warm, non-judgmental space to help you feel listened to and supported. I’m not here to fix/ judge. I’m here to help you feel more like yourself and a little more steady on your feet during times of hardship.

In my sessions, I work with person-centred and integrative approaches and we explore what support can look like for you to help you build self-awareness, emotional resilience and learn management/ coping strategies to help you cultivate a greater sense of empowerment during times of hardship.

My main niche

My main niche is supporting adults who are looking for support when they’ve experienced unhealthy or abusive relationships.

Whether you're struggling with issues from a romantic relationship, family member, work colleague, manager, friend/ friendship group, or a difficult breakup, I’m here to offer a empathetic pair of ears and offer support to help you work towards (not limited to):

  • Improving self-esteem/self-confidence
  • Building self-awareness
  • Managing anxiety, low mood/depression
  • Improve over-doing people-pleasing tendencies
  • Support with managing dissociation symptoms
  • Exploring feelings of guilt/shame
  • Helping you find your feet again

Training, qualifications & experience

After graduating with an English Literature degree, I later began to take the route of studying towards my counselling qualification.

Fast forward to now, I’m a qualified Counsellor (using the person-centred & integrative approaches) and achieved a Distinction in my Foundation Counselling Degree. I'm a registered member of the BACP (MBACP).

I’ve spent over three years counselling a wide range of adults, with my speciality in supporting survivors of abuse. My counselling experience includes charity work, EAP counselling and now private practice settings.

My approach is trauma-informed, warm, down-to-earth, friendly, curious, non judgmental, and focused on providing you the space to talk openly and helping you feel more confident, capable and supported.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Additional information

I know just how nerve-wracking it can feel making the decision to start counselling or for feelings of apprehension wondering "will this counsellor be the right fit for me?" To help ease the worry and pressure, I offer a free 15-20 minute phone consultation so you can get to know me a bit more and to see if we can be a good fit working together. If things move in that direction, then we can look into scheduling our first session.

Our first session will be charged £25 as this will mainly include going over the contract, policies, assessments (risk assessments), goals for counselling, etc.

Sessions after that will dive a bit deeper into the therapeutic work and will be charged £45.

I am currently offering a few concession spaces for students and trainee counsellors. The concession rate for the assessment is £15 and the concession rate for sessions is £30.

At the moment, I am only offering online counselling at the moment via Google Meet/ Telephone.
