About me

Hi, I’m Laura Wood. I’m a qualified psychotherapist specialising in supporting adults who give so much in their relationships yet still feel unseen or emotionally unsupported. I help you understand your needs and communicate them clearly and confidently, so you can feel connected without feeling guilty for asking. I work with individuals and couples (in my work, the term "couples" refers to two people, this may be a romantic, platonic, professional or familial relationship.)

You might be the one who remembers everything.
The planner.
The mental load carrier.
The person others rely upon.

On the outside, you’re dependable and strong. But on the inside, you’re tired and quietly carrying the mental or emotional load while your own needs go unheard.

You may feel:

  • Overwhelmed or emotionally drained from holding everything together
  • Lonely, even when you’re in a relationship or surrounded by others
  • Unsure how to communicate your needs without feeling guilty, “too much” or fearing conflict.
  • Stuck in patterns where you give more than you receive
  • Invisible, unsupported, or overlooked

How I Work

My approach combines a nurturing therapeutic space with practical communication tools, so you can:

  • Understand what you truly need and want
  • Express yourself with clarity and confidence
  • Create more balanced, connected relationships where you feel seen and valued
  • Reduce emotional overwhelm and stop carrying everything alone

Is this right for you?

You might benefit from working with me if:

  • You’re used to prioritising others and struggle to express your needs
  • You over-function in relationships (taking on all the organising, remembering, planning)
  • You feel responsible for keeping the peace
  • You’re craving emotional connection, not just practical partnership
  • You want deeper, more authentic relationships – romantic, friends, colleagues and/or familial.

Our work together
Therapy sessions are a dedicated space in your week that is just for you.

Together we will:

  • Slow down and understand your emotional patterns
  • Build emotional clarity (what do I feel? what do I need?)
  • Practise communicating your needs without apology
  • Explore boundaries and relationship balance, at a pace that feels safe

Practical Information

  • Our sessions are 50 minutes.
  • I work in-person and online. My online work is via secure video calls or email (please see my website for more information on this way of working).
  • We begin with a free introductory session to ensure we’re a good fit and for you to ask any questions you may have.
  • Sessions are usually weekly to maintain momentum, although fortnightly can be discussed

A note about the process
Therapy is a journey, not a quick fix. I ask clients to bring commitment and patience. Meaningful change takes time. Together we’ll work steadily toward building clarity, confidence, and more balanced relationships.

A little about me

I'm a mother to a 1 year old girl and becoming a mother shifted the way I think about connection. It deepened my awareness of the invisible emotional labour many people carry - planning, remembering, anticipating, caring.
I saw this pattern reflected in my clients too, and it became clear that
we cannot keep caring for everyone else if we’re never allowed to take up space.

I am passionate about helping people who give so much finally receive support, connection, and understanding.

You deserve relationships that hold you too.

Not ready for therapy just yet?

I recognise that starting therapy can feel big and maybe feels a bit daunting to talk to someone you feel you don't know. Here are some ways I can support you and give you the opportunity to get to know me at the same time:

- Instagram. You get to know me as a person, as well as a therapist, while also accessing the helpful content I share around connection.

- Blog. I write blogs regularly on topics I feel are helpful or that frequently show up in the therapy space. https://www.laurawoodtherapy.co.uk/blog

- The Rebalance. A monthly email from me offering insights and things you could reflect upon/implement each month. https://www.laurawoodtherapy.co.uk/email-list

Areas of counselling I deal with

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I specialise in supporting adults who carry the mental and emotional load in their relationships, and I tend to work with people who often put everyone else’s needs before their own. You might be the one who remembers appointments, plans the week, manages the household, and ensures others are cared for, while your own needs remain quiet or unmet. I help you notice these patterns, gain clarity about what you truly want, and express your needs with confidence and kindness. Together, we create balance, healthier boundaries, and relationships where you feel valued, supported, and emotionally connected.
