Counsellor and Psychotherapist

About me

I offer face to face counselling in Leeds (Chapel Allerton), and remotely via Zoom throughout the country.

I am currently fully booked, however please feel free to get in touch to discuss where you are and how we might work together.  Should you wish to work together, I am happy keep your details on my waiting list.

My Approach

In truth, therapy can be hard. That doesn’t mean it has to be clinical.

My approach is relational. This means that connection is at the heart of our work. I meet you where you are, to find light in the dark.

Together, and at your pace, we can explore how your past is impacting your present, discuss unresolved issues, and understand patterns of behaviour, to provide insight into the challenges you are facing.

Influenced by the work of Jung and Yalom, I believe that the therapeutic relationship is where change and growth happens. As an integrative therapist, I am able to draw on various models and theories to work with you as an individual, rather than adopting a one-size-fits-all approach.

My aim is to work with you to create a trusting, authentic and collaborative relationship in which we can unpick what is going on for you.

It takes real guts to be vulnerable and seek help, but this is the first step.

Training, qualifications & experience

After working for a number of years with young people with additional needs, including ADHD and autism, I trained for three years to earn a Postgraduate Certificate and a Masters Degree in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy.

I am also a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), which means I adhere to their high standards and am committed to ethical, professional, and compassionate practice.

I undertake my private practice as part of Arbour Counselling and Psychotherapy, a small collective of therapists based in Chapel Allerton.

In addition to this work I provide therapy to people within the criminal justice system. In both environments, I support individuals with a wide range of issues, including anxiety, depression, grief and loss, with particular experience of working with trauma and abuse, having a deep understanding how such issues can impact daily life and relationships.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

Life has a way of presenting us with unexpected, and undeserved challenges that can leave us feeling overwhelmed. Therapy can help you make sense of it all, and move forward.

I provide a space where you can be truly heard and understood. Where you can be your authentic self, or indeed discover who and what that is. Within the security of this therapeutic relationship, you are free to explore what is going on for you, with empathy, and without judgment.

Through this process, you have the opportunity to gain a new or deeper understanding of yourself, develop effective coping strategies, and create meaningful change in your life.
