About me
Hello! I’m Dr Kyra Thompson, a Counselling Psychologist dedicated to offering a warm, welcoming space for adults and young people (16+) facing challenges including but not limited to anxiety, low mood, stress, relationship difficulties, life transitions, and trauma. I have particular interests in supporting people navigating questions of identity and belonging, living with the impacts of trauma or low self-worth, and those from ethnic and cultural minority backgrounds.
I believe there’s no single “right” way to heal. My approach is integrative and relational, which means I tailor therapy to suit you, collaborating with you to find what feels most meaningful and supportive. I draw from therapies including Person-Centred and Experiential Therapies, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Schema Therapy, and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) to create a flexible, personalised experience for every individual I work with.
Above all, my work is grounded in warmth, compassion, and respect. My aim is to provide a space where you can feel truly heard, make sense of challenges, and move towards greater self-understanding and wellbeing.
Training, qualifications & experience
My experience spans private practice, third-sector roles, and educational settings, as well as residential childcare, where I supported young people and families dealing with early trauma, loss, and attachment disruption. It’s important to me that therapy feels safe, trauma-informed, and culturally sensitive, creating an environment where all parts of your story can be explored and understood.
My qualifications are:
- Doctorate in Counselling Psychology (DPsych)
- MSc in Development, Disorders, and Clinical Practice
- BSc (Hons) in Psychology

The HCPC are an independent, UK-wide health regulator. They set standards of professional training, performance and conduct for 16 professions.
They keep a register of health professionals who meet their standards, and they take action if registered health professionals fall below those standards. They were created by a piece of legislation called the Health Professions Order 2001.
