About me

Hello, I'm Keya Edwards.
I'm a qualified counsellor working with adults and couples in Stockport & online, offering a warm, compassionate, confidential, and non-judgemental space for therapy.

In all areas of my work, I’m committed to helping people make meaningful and lasting changes. As a qualified integrative counsellor, I tailor our work together using a blend of Person-Centred Therapy (PCT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Transactional Analysis (TA) approaches that allow me to adapt to your unique needs and experiences. I am also a trained EMDR therapist, which enables me to offer effective trauma-focused therapy as part of our work.

Alongside my private practice, I also work as an NHS counsellor, supporting individuals and families affected by cancer and bereavement. This role has deepened my understanding of the emotional impact of life-changing diagnoses and the strength it takes to navigate grief, fear, uncertainty, and hope. It’s an immense privilege to hold space for people during some of the most vulnerable and challenging times of their lives.

I believe that change starts with connection. I aim to build a strong, trusting relationship with my clients, one where you feel safe to be fully yourself, explore what’s going on, and feel heard without judgement.

Whether you're dealing with anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, or feeling stuck in unhelpful patterns, I’m here to support you. We’ll look together at how your past and present experiences are shaping your thoughts, behaviours, and relationships examining things like attachment styles, emotional needs, communication, and coping mechanisms. Are you constantly people-pleasing, shutting down, or living in survival mode? Do you find yourself abandoning your own needs? We'll explore the roots of these patterns, understand why they developed, and work on building new ways of relating to yourself and others.

I have experience working with individuals from a wide range of backgrounds, and I deeply respect the courage it takes to begin therapy. Through our work together, my hope is that you'll come to better understand who you are, develop greater self-compassion, feel more connected, and rediscover your own direction and purpose in life.

Whatever you're going through, you don’t have to face it alone. I’m here to walk alongside you—at your pace, in your time.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
