About me
I am a qualified and experienced counsellor, psychotherapist and lecturer offering therapy from a Person Centered Perspective. I truly believe there are many different ways to solve a problem and during sessions we will work together to find the one best suited for you.
During sessions I will likely ask;
- How can I help?
- What has worked for you in the past?
- What would you like to achieve?
- What do we need to do to achieve it?
- Shall we try it?
- Is it working?
Change is not always easy.
Training, qualifications & experience
This is my story...
After completing a BA (Hons) Degree in Business and Finance I worked hard for over 20 years in fast paced sales and customer services. I worked all hours to smash sales targets and successfully climb the career ladder. During a break to take care of my growing and blended family of adopted children with additional needs, something drew me towards counselling. I was lucky enough to find a part time Introduction to Counselling Skills course at my local further education college. Immediately my outlook on life changed. I studied hard, working through the counselling qualification levels to finally achieve a BA Degree (with First Class Honors) in Therapeutic Counselling and Psychotherapy. I am continuing my studies towards a Masters Degree and Supervision qualification so I can support trainee and qualified counsellors with client work.
I run my counselling private practice from a dedicated private therapy room in the grounds of my home with plenty of parking and a private entrance. I am a registered member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapists), I am fully insured and I hold an enhanced DBS.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
