About me

Hello, I am Kerri, and I am trained in Adlerian Counselling and Psychotherapy.

Deciding to start therapy can feel like a step into the unknown and so it is important to know how we might work together. My approach focusses first and foremost upon building a trusting relationship to lay down the foundations for our journey together.

Sometimes life can be challenging causing difficult emotions such as anxiety, stress, depression, confusion, grief, overwhelm and isolation to name only a few. These feelings can be very hard to live with, leaving us deeply discouraged.

Alongside this, childhood experiences can sometimes continue to hijack our thoughts and emotions all the way through our adult lives, further contributing to unhelpful behaviours or coping strategies that no longer work.

If you choose to work with me, we will gently explore your life-journey, paying attention to early recollections to gain an understanding of how you have grown to see yourself, others and the world.

I will offer a safe, open-minded and confidential space where you may share your thoughts and start to make sense of things. The insights gained will help you to identify areas for future personal growth which we can then work towards.

Alongside fostering self-discovery, I will encourage you to recognise your strengths and support you in building the courage to face life’s difficulties. We will explore ways to practice self-care along the way to nurture greater wellbeing.

You will be my lead, and there will be no expectation to talk about anything you are not ready for…

From me, you can expect warmth, compassion, respect, honesty, dedication, congruence, thoughtful challenge and when appropriate, some playful humour.

In Adlerian counselling the philosophy is, “things can always be different” offering a truly hopeful perspective and an open-ended possibility for change.

If you would like to have an initial chat to discuss your circumstances, please contact me by phone or email.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

I have many years experience in working with addiction and am currently employed by the NHS where I work in the community with individuals who are working towards achieving and maintaining recovery from alcohol or substance use.

Working with families members affected by their loved one's substance use is an area of specialism I am able to bring.

This work has also led me to have a special interest in those with or awaiting a diagnosis of ADHD/Autism which appears to have a significant link to addiction issues.

My longer-term background has included supporting people with complex mental health issues, those with learning differences and those struggling to access education and employment.

Additionally, I have trained with SANDs to support bereaved parents who have had the devastating experience of pregnancy and baby loss - an issue close to my heart...
