Katy Humphreys Intergrative Psychotherapist and Supervisor
Counsellor /CBT Therapist for Children and Adults and Reiki Practitioner
Welcome to my profile, I am a professional, friendly Counsellor working with Children and adults I have experience working with children in schools and colleges and with children who have experienced trauma and have attachment difficulties. l work from home and have recently relocated to the Newburgh /Parbold area which is a lovely part of the world. Parbold is accessible by train from Manchester and is central to liverpool, skelmersdale and Ormskirk. I am currently proving sessions remotely in line with covid19.
I have a wealth of experience working within the Health and social care sector and Education and really enjoy the work I do.
I work using an intergrative approach with a Person centred base. Person centred Therapy is based on Carl Rogers's theory that everyone has the answers they need somewhere within themselves. Person Centred counselling is not about telling you what to do but helps to facilitate changes that you want to make and provides a space each week where you can explore your own thoughts, feelings and behaviours.
As an Integrative Therapist I work with each person as an individual and adapt the techniques used to the needs of each client. If a more directive approach is needed I will work with you to incorporate Cognitive Behaviour interventions and other techniques during the sessions depending on your individual needs, personality and aims of therapy.
I am also trained to use Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) which can be particularly useful for treating things such as Anxiety Disorders,Anger Management,Eating disorders and any Negative Thought Patterns or cycles.
In addition to counselling I also offer Reiki treatments which can compliment therapy and can be combined as a joint session or stand alone treatment .Reiki is helpful in healing any trauma and helping to release emotional blockages and feeling of being stuck. Reiki works with your natutal energies and is effective in reducing anxiety, stress and creating a sense of relaxation.
Whatever the difficulty is you are experiencing Integrative therapy is effective at getting to the root of the problem to enable you to make changes in your life.
Can counselling help me?
It can be difficult to know if therapy can help you, especially if you have not been before. Even picking up the phone to make an appointment can be difficult.
Coming for Counselling does not mean that there is anything wrong with you, many people find it helpful at some point in their life .
Below is a list which may help you decide if you can benefit from counselling or CBT. We can also discuss this further in our first meeting .
Counselling may help you if you
*Have unresolved issues from the past
*Are feeling the loss of someone close
*Feel Sad,Anxious or Depressed
*Feel the need to always please others
*Have experience a lot of change
*Want help to manage your Anger
*Feel something isn't quite right but your unsure what or why
*Having lots of negative thoughts that are affecting how you feel
*Have difficulty forming or maintaining healthy attachment and relationships
There are also many other reason why people come to Counselling and although talking to family and friends can often help it is not the same as going for therapy where the time and space is dedicated purely for you.
Why choose me?
I understand that finding the right therapist is really important and you need to feel at ease to build up a trusting relationship . I work in a non judgemental way and offer a safe, warm ,comfortable place where we can work together.
I am often told that I have a 'knack' of making people feel comfortable which I'm sure you will find too . I will work with you as an equal to make sure that you get the most from your therapy session.
I will return your call or email within 24 hours of you contacting me and always work flexibly to fit around my clients needs.
How long will I need to come for therapy?
The number of sessions that people come to counselling varies from person to person. You can expect to start feeling differently from the first session and many clients find short term therapy over a few months while others may want to continuing for a longer periods of time or on going to help maintain positive mental health.
Weekly sessions are recommended initially and there may be occasions at the beginning of therapy where twice weekly sessions feels needed. We can discuss the frequency in the initial meeting.
If you would like to chat about counselling before making an appointment please feel free to contact me by email or telephone.
Therapy for children
I have worked with children and teenagers experiencing a range of difficulties such as Anxiety, Trauma, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder ,attachment disorders ,LAC aswell as children who have experienced a bereavement or loss .
I am also able to provide therapy for children or teenagers who are on the CAMHS waiting list and wish to start therapy straight away.
When working with children confidentiality is of high importance and any information shared during the session will not be shared with parents or carers unless the young person wishes for it to shared or there is a safe guarding concern.
Along side my counselling background ,I have many years of experience, working with people with SEND and Autism/Aspergers . This is a specialist area of work where communicating at the appropriate level is essential to enable counselling to be effective. I have experience using a wide range of communication aids such as PECS and pictorial information.
I am experienced working in a multi agency team providing consultations to staff to support young people with emotional and behavioral difficulties.

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
