About me
I offer counselling and psychotherapy face-to-face in York and online with clients across the UK. My approach is integrative, which means I draw on different therapeutic approaches depending on you as an individual, rather than expecting you to fit into one particular way of working.
People come to therapy for many different reasons. You may be experiencing anxiety or stress, struggling with difficult emotions, relationships - past and present, going through a period of change, or finding that you have become stuck in patterns of thinking, feeling or behaving that you would like to change. Sometimes you might know exactly what is troubling you; at other times, you might simply know that something doesn't feel right.
I am particularly interested in understanding what sits beneath the difficulties we experience. You might recognise a pattern in yourself and know that it isn't helping you. You may find yourself repeating patterns that cause you pain, even when you desperately wanting things to be different. This can lead to cycles shame, self-criticism and emotional distress. Therapy can provide an opportunity to explore why those patterns developed, what continues to maintain them, and what may need to change for you to feel different. Therapy can help you begin to develop healthier, more helpful ways of responding.
My way of working is collaborative, relational, and non-judgemental. I won't tell you how you should feel or what you should do with your life. Instead, we work together, at your pace, to develop a greater understanding of you, your experiences and the ways in which they may be influencing your life now.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist and a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP). My training has provided me with experience of working therapeutically with adults experiencing a range of emotional and psychological difficulties.
My qualifications include:
- BA (Hons) Counselling and Mental Health.
- MA Integrative Counselling.
My integrative training has given me an understanding of a number of therapeutic approaches which allows me to consider each person individually. Rather than working from the assumption that one approach will suit everyone, I draw upon different ways of understanding what may be happening for you and adapt the way we work together accordingly.
Through my clinical experience, I have worked within NHS services with clients within Tier 3, weight management services and Tier 4, bariatric services. This gave me experience of working with people experiencing more complex and enduring mental health difficulties, alongside a broad range of emotional and psychological concerns. I also have clinical experience of clients presenting with a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, stress, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, low mood, lack of confidence, difficult life experiences- from childhood through to adulthood- and patterns of thinking, feeling or behaving that have become hard to change.
Alongside my formal training and clinical experience, I am committed to continuing professional development and ongoing supervision. This enables me to continue developing my practice and to work ethically, safely and reflectively with the people I support.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information
Finding the right therapist is an important part of the therapeutic process. I offer a free 15-minute initial consultation, giving you an opportunity to discuss what has brought you to therapy, ask any questions you may have and get a sense of whether you feel comfortable working with me. There is no obligation to continue following the consultation. The choice is always yours.
I offer face-to-face sessions in York as well as online sessions for clients across the UK. Sessions are 50 minutes and are usually held weekly.
I believe therapy works best when there is space for openness, curiosity and honesty. You don't need to arrive knowing exactly what you want to talk about or having found the right words to explain how you feel. We can begin with what is happening for you now and work from there.
