About me
Hi, I’m Katrina, I am a BACP registered, person-centred counsellor, I offer in person counselling in Edinburgh and Dalkeith, and online counselling around the UK.
Whatever brings you to counselling, I am here to listen to you, understand your experiences and what it means to be you. Life comes with different challenges and experiences, and these can affect us in many ways, I offer a gentle and non-judgemental space for you to explore at your own pace.
Counselling Approach
As a person-centred counsellor, my counselling is about the relationship we build and supporting you to find the way forward that is right for you. My counselling approach will be adapted to your needs and wishes and you are welcome to come with goals in mind or simply a wish to be heard and understood. I hope that you can feel understood and accepted within our sessions, I am an LGBTQIA+ affirming and neuro-affirming counsellor.
My aim is to provide a space where you can be yourself as you are, free from the judgement and expectations of daily life. My aim is to build a safe and supportive relationship where you can reconnect to yourself, process your experiences and emotions or plan aligned changes in your life. The counselling space is yours and I will be here to support you, whatever you need from it. I do not come with a set agenda or any things you ‘should’ do, nor do I take on an 'expert' role.
I work in person in Edinburgh and Dalkeith, and I also offer online and telephone counselling around the UK, allowing you to access counselling from the comfort of your own space.
It is important to find a counsellor who is right for you, I offer a free, consultation via phone or Zoom, so you can see if we are a good fit to work together.
If you think you may like to work with me then please get in touch, I look forward to hearing from you.
Training, qualifications & experience
Experience
Most importantly, I work with the person first, we are all unique and even shared experiences can affect us very differently. Whatever reason you are seeking counselling, you will be met without any expectations about how you ‘should’ feel about your experiences. I believe you are the expert in your own life, and I aim to support you to explore this however is right for you.
I have a range of experience within counselling and from my previous role as a teacher. Through this role I witnessed the positive impact of counselling which led me to train as a counsellor. I work with clients who seek counselling for many reasons, such as anxiety, work-related stress, low self-esteem, domestic abuse and trauma.
Counselling for Domestic Abuse and Trauma
I have significant experience supporting clients who have experienced domestic abuse, providing a safe space for women to process their experiences and find ways to move on that are right for them. I work with all aspects of trauma and abuse and am committed to supporting you to process and move on in the way that is right for you.
Counselling for Teachers and Caring Professionals
Prior to becoming a counsellor, I worked as a teacher both as a class teacher and in support for learning. I understand the pressures of working within a high stress workplace whilst fulfilling a caring role and the impact this can have on our wellbeing. I offer counselling to support you to process the ways your role affects you and find your way forward.

Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
