"Between the idea and the reality... Falls the shadow" TS Eliot.
I get the shadow.
Sometimes it's hard to know what you feel, or how you feel and even harder to be able to express it - to yourself, never mind to someone else; my particular skill is in getting that and helping you to get that. Once the feelings are identified and understood we are able to unpick what it is, that's actually going on and deal with it, in a way that feels comfortable and possible for you.
When you come to see me, the counselling session is about you, the focus is on you … but I bring myself to the session, so that the experience is a real and genuine experience in which we both participate.
I can offer you structure and empathy, understanding and clarity of vision, combined with warmth, wit and honesty.
I have worked as a Counsellor for 15 years and have a very broad base and depth of experience.
I have worked particularly with trauma and sexual/ physical/ domestic abuse and unequal emotional relationships of all kinds and also with loss and bereavement , anxiety, low confidence and low self esteem.
I work with adults and I am a qualified supervisor.
I currently work mostly in private practice with individual clients but am also responsible for supervision with several organisations including a specialist domestic abuse service and work as a clinical supervisor with experienced individual counsellors and trainee counsellors. Previously I worked for many years on a national counselling helpline, and in employees assistance work. I have worked extensively in face to face work but I now practice exclusively online and by telephone.
I work with integrity in a very open and honest way with whatever issues you would like to bring.
I work well with people of all backgrounds and class and I am not easily shocked.

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

When I work
"I think its difficult to explain just how perceptive kathy is and how quickly she can understand where you are at and where you may need/like to be.
I met her when I was very nearly in complete crisis and she helped me so professionally and empathically. She spotted things that other teams hadn't noticed and I can never thank her enough for her genuinely life changing work in supporting me"
"I offer you much gratitude and warm appreciation for your insightful and kind guidance during my sessions with you.
Our sessions have had such a positive impact on the issues I faced and also less expectedly, on my wider confidence and ability to navigate life.
I found the balance between you listening and offering thoughts and suggestions to be just what I needed.
Heartfelt thanks. "
