About me

Trauma manifests in many ways, including anxiety and depression.  You feel confused and disorientated. You spend time figuring out feelings of unhappiness, destructive behaviours, and repeated unhelpful patterns in relationships.   You have symptoms like aches and pains and panic attacks. You have difficulty sleeping with a lack of motivation and satisfaction at work. Unexplained illnesses make matters worse. You feel stuck, and things you took pleasure in now seem pointless and hard work.

As a humanistic counsellor, you and I will consider all your experiences as valuable and valid.  This includes events like family estrangement (which I have a lived experience of) and family patterns; relationships; dissociation; abuse and adverse childhood experiences; traumatic past events; work stresses; struggles with identity and life purpose; bereavement and chronic grief, and much more.  I have a wealth of experience working with clients who have lived through these events. Working collaboratively and respectfully from your own perspective of your world is appropriate for most experiences and life challenges.  You have the opportunity to explore and make sense of it all in your own way and without judgment.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I have five years post-qualifying experience.  In that time, I have maintained professional development.  Keeping on top of recent research and developments in counselling is important for any therapist. That is why I am returning to the University of Chichester to participate in a research-based Master of Arts.  As an outcome my aim is to offer you a deeper and more philosophical approach to meaning, purpose, identity, and existence.

Additional information

Coming to counselling with me is worth the investment of your time and money.  My clients have said that they found relief in just having the opportunity to speak impartially, empathically and without a response that suggests a solution. With increased awareness I may challenge your thinking, and ask you to look again at the situation, to develop deeper insight and a different perspective.

At the end of their therapy with me, clients have said they have found the experience beneficial and helpful in bringing about the changes in their lives. I have witnessed improvements in mood within a few sessions, and life changing decisions at the end of therapy.

I work flexibily with weekly, fortnightly or monthly sessions on offer, as agreed, to be more aligned with your budget.

Further information

I have a comfortable and inspiring space, free from distractions, intrusion and interruption. My clients have said it is relaxing and safe that provided the opportunity to reflect and consider experiences; an environment to facilitate hope, possibility and resilience for growth.  Professional and safe, I guarantee confidentiality.

Upon initial inquiry I assure you of my warmest welcome and a rapid response. After agreeing an appointment I will provide you with more details of how counselling with me works and the essential boundaries that create an ethical relationship.

I will collect very brief background information from you about what brings you to counselling and what you expect from your sessions.

At the beginning of the first session we will explore any outstanding questions and concerns, after which the work begins.

I assure you of my best attention at all times.  I warmly welcome your enquiry.
