About me
kateormerodcounselling.co.uk
People are complicated and our lives are complicated. I work with the whole of a person, and so my ethos is people, not problems.
I will provide a space free of judgement where we can explore what makes you and work out what changes you would like to make.
My role is to ensure you feel secure and comfortable. It can be very difficult to open up and reveal ourselves, and it is my responsibility to create a safe and confidential space. I am here for you; I work for you. This is your time.
I am also here to provide support, accountability, information, and sometimes a little direction.
I work by getting to know you over a few sessions together, and after that, we can begin to look at patterns of thought or behaviour that are impacting your life. It is always your choice what you want to do about those patterns.
I believe that culture and experiences make it difficult to listen to ourselves, but that doing so is vital in finding happiness and fulfilment. By tuning in to what the quieter or smaller parts of us have to say, we can bring ourselves out of conflict.
Training, qualifications & experience
Qualified member of the BACP
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Additional information
Our first session will be a space where we get to know one another and you can experience some counselling process. I will explain how I work and what counselling is if you haven't experienced it before, and then you can decide in your own time whether you wish to work with me. It's important that you find the right counsellor for you.
After that, we can work together to set some goals or decide to allow the sessions to flow.
We can periodically review how we are progressing, what works for you and what doesn't, set some new goals, and look back at the progress you've made.
An initial consultation is half an hour, free of charge.
