About me

Hi there, my name is Kat and I am a psychotherapist with an academic background in Psychology. I have an Honours Degree in Psychology from the University of Edinburgh. After graduating, I have acquired a COSCA Certificate of Counselling Skills and a Professional DIploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling Practice. I have completed a Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Course and I practice mindfulness regularly. I run a trauma-informed practice.

I am an integrative counsellor which means I can use a range of approaches in our therapeutic work. I mainly use person-centred and CBT approaches, as well as ACT. I place a focus on establishing a safe and trusting relationship which becomes a foundation of the work. I work at the client's pace - you will be driving the therapeutic process and I will be in the passenger seat, supporting you. I believe that a different therapy should be constructed for each client depending on their unique needs - an equivalent of a custom-made suit :)

I like working in a person-centred way, placing the needs of each individual at the heart of the practice. Depending on your preferences, our sessions can include worksheets and regular homework. We can incorporate elements of breathwork, mindfulness, polyvagal theory and somatic experiencing. Some of my clients find imagery tools like Dixit helpful in the therapeutic room. I also encourage journalling between sessions. I like working creatively with clients.

My keen interest in psychology and neuroscience means I keep up to date with scientific journals and books on the topic - I am always learning and I regularly attend mental health conferences. I am interested in the field of ecopsychiatry and therapeutic ornitology - I like the idea of green prescriptions and I believe in the benefits of nature on our nervous systems. I offer outdoor therapy/walk and talk therapy. I am interested in the field of lifestyle medicine and the positive effect of physical activity on our health.

I offer therapy in-person (Bruntsfield area) and online. I offer a free 30-minute phone call so you can tell me a bit about what brings you to counselling and what you would like to achieve. This benefits both of us - you can check if I am the person you would like to work with, and I can assess if I am able to support you.

I am looking forward to accompanying you on the journey and helping you achieve your therapeutic goals.

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
