About me

If you are thinking about therapy you may be feeling sad, lost, confused, anxious, angry, depressed or overwhelmed. Or you may want to take a step back, reassess your life and start to live it differently. I work with people who want to bring balance, purpose and sense of direction and peace to their lives. Making the decision to come for counselling can feel like a big step, and it may be the first stage of taking action to try and address problems which might be difficult to acknowledge, or painful to think about.

My clients are often working through difficult and knotty issues which can evoke confusion and shame. I aim to help you reach an accommodation and understanding which helps you to move forwards in your life.

I offer a warm and pragmatic approach. In my practice I have worked with many people; builders, CEOs, nurses, accountants - all walks of life, all backgrounds and all issues. I tailor every session to you and offer you the support insight and sometimes challenge that you may need. I aim to see everyone within a week of your enquiry.

I am an accredited counsellor, trained and experienced in working with individuals and couples. I offer a confidential and safe environment where we can explore difficult feelings together. By thinking about your experiences and relationships, past and present, we can work towards an in depth understanding of who you are. By understanding how you are really feeling, and thinking about what is happening in a thoughtful and non-judgemental way, we can start to identify and challenge patterns of behaviour which may be causing problems in your life. I believe that the self awareness gained through counselling can offer you an opportunity to realise your full potential.

The relationship between counsellor and client is very important. Our initial meeting is an opportunity for you to talk about what has brought you to counselling, ask questions, and for me to explain what I can offer, so that you can decide whether you think this is the right step for you.

My background and qualifications

I worked for 15 years in the business world before retraining, and I am familiar with the issues that arise from working in a corporate setting. I have many clients who are referred to me through their health schemes, with work related issues.

In addition to my core training in Psychodynamic therapy (in which I have a Masters qualification) I have also trained at the Tavistock Institute - a renowned centre of excellence for Systemic (Groups and Family) Therapy, where I gained a Post Graduate Certificate. During my training I underwent 4 years of group therapy and 3 years of individual therapy, so I have some experience of sitting on the other side of the process.

I have 5 years post qualification experience with well over 2000 client hours. In my private practice I work with relationship difficulties, depression, anxiety, anger management, bipolar disorder, and a range of other issues. I have also worked in a hospice which has given me considerable experience in working with individuals and their families who are affected by living with a serious illness, and those who have lost someone as a result of illness.

I offer long-term, open-ended counselling, in addition to short term work, where the focus is on one specific problem or difficulty.

I aim to see new clients within a week of their first enquiry (availability permitting) as I feel it is important to maintain the momentum once a decision has been made.

I can work with clients via skype or FaceTime, and I also offer a unique 'Walk and Talk' service where we can venture into the great outdoors.

I am a full member of the Professional Body of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, and I am bound by their Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy. I am BUPA recognised.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am an accredited member of the BACP, and I have a Masters (MA) in Contemporary Therapeutic counselling. I also have a Couples Certificate, and a PG Certificate in Systemic Therapy from the Tavistock Institute.

I charge £60 for individuals (50 minute session), and £75 for couples (1 hour session). I will consider offering concessions if necessary.
