About me

Hello, my name is Jules and I am a friendly and experienced counsellor who can help you through whatever difficulties you may be facing.

I support individuals deal with many of life’s challenges including anxiety and depression and have previous experience of working with loss, grief and bereavement in a hospice setting, and of supporting individuals dealing with drug and alcohol issues within an addiction service.

l am a specialist oncology counsellor and I have worked for the past 4 years in an NHS oncology centre. Receiving a diagnosis and enduring treatment can be a time of crisis for you, your friends and family and l have met and worked with many of the challenges you may be facing.  When we face a crisis, such as a cancer diagnosis, we often don’t know where to turn or how to cope so we manage as best we can. Sometimes a bit of focused help and support can make all the difference.

Life can be overwhelming for many different reasons. Perhaps you are used to bottling things up but feel it just isn’t working anymore. You might be feeling anxious, low, stuck, or struggling to cope with a loss, or a difficult experience. Or maybe your self-esteem has taken a knock, you're navigating the emotional impact of a life event, or you just don’t feel like yourself. Whatever challenges you are facing, together we can make sense of your experiences and identify tools to support you, exploring at a pace that feels ok for you, one session at a time.

I offer a space where you can speak freely, without fear of judgement, and where your experiences and feelings are met with empathy and understanding. My approach is grounded in person-centred counselling, which means I work in a way that is respectful, compassionate, and led by you, but l have integrated a range of other approaches and strategies which other clients facing similar difficulties have found to be effective. No one way suits everyone.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a qualified counsellor, fully insured and registered with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). My previous experience has included working as a bereavement counsellor in a hospice environment, working as a school counsellor with young people in both primary and secondary school settings and as a counsellor in a drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre. I currently work as an oncology counsellor for the NHS, working with patients with cancer and their families, as well as in private practice.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Additional information

I offer a free 30-minute introductory chat where we can explore why you are interested in having counselling and what you are hoping to get from it. This will also be a chance for me to tell you a bit about counselling generally, and in particular how I work and what I offer.

Further information

I work with adults, in sessions that are held online, offering flexibility and privacy - wherever you are in the UK.

Whether you are stuck, struggling or just need some space to breathe, taking the first step towards counselling can feel daunting, but it’s a powerful act of self-care.
