About me

Would you like the opportunity to feel heard, accepted, and understood? I can offer you the time and space to be yourself and think without pressure. This will give you clarity and insight, empowering you to find your own voice and realise your full potential.

Sometimes life can feel challenging, or situations difficult, and you may feel distressed, isolated, or unhappy. Perhaps you’re struggling with things in your life, or you’re not even sure why you feel this way. Talking to someone who really listens to, values, and accepts you can help. I can offer you a non-judgemental, supportive, and confidential setting to talk about your feelings, thoughts, and concerns. I provide a safe space for us to explore your life by putting into words and coming to terms with what is troubling you. I believe this will enable you to find a new way forward in a direction and at a pace that is right for you.

Before a change of vocation to become a counsellor, I worked within the NHS for 30 years and have extensive experience of supporting people when they are at their most vulnerable and frightened. I have learned how listening to someone with complete care, compassion, and respect helps me recognise signs of emotional pain that are not always as easy to see and notice as physical pain.

I feel passionate about supporting clients and their families living with cancer, menopause, life changing injuries or trauma to feel less isolated and alone. This is enhanced by my dental background and experience.

I place you at the heart of our therapeutic relationship, integrating different therapeutic approaches to suit your individual needs. This may include looking into the past and how it affects your behaviour and feelings today. Or, concentrating on current issues by increasing your self-awareness and self-esteem. By making sense of what is happening for you, you will be able to make  positive changes in your life and relationships.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a wide range of experience working with people living with depression, menopause, cancer, chronic illness, anxiety, traumatic injury, sudden death, unexpected loss, caring for others and domestic abuse survivors.

I have training in trauma, grief, bereavement, chronic pain and illness and safeguarding.

I am a diploma qualified counsellor and registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP registration Number 390283).

I adhere to the BACP Ethical Framework for good practice. I undertake regular Continuing Professional Development and my practice is regularly monitored by Supervision in adherence with this.

I am certified for online and telephone counselling.

I have worked as a School Counsellor in both primary and secondary schools.

Member organisations

BACP

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

I offer an initial free 30-minute consultation so that we can meet each other. It gives us the chance to explore what you would like to gain from therapy, your goals, hopes and expectations and whether counselling feels right for you.  It offers an opportunity to establish if we would like to work together and if I am the right counsellor for you and what I am able to offer.

Please feel welcome to contact me by email or leave a message on my voicemail – I aim to reply within 48 hours. All messages are completely confidential.

I offer a choice of face-to-face, telephone or Zoom counselling – whichever feels the most comfortable for you and your needs. I can offer flexibility to suit you.
