About me

Welcome

"The world is not made for me" - does this notion sound at all familiar? It does to me and I know it to be a common experience, especially for those who hold marginalised identities.

Hi there, my name is Julia, it's good to have you on my profile. I am a London-based fully qualified Gestalt psychotherapeutic counsellor working in person, outdoors, and online.

I have been trained to work with a wide variety of issues and have a particular interest in working with those who have experienced systemic oppression. Being a physically disabled person myself, I have lived experience of what it is like to live in a world not designed for you and I aim to provide a therapeutic practice that is inclusive, accessible, and welcoming to all.

If you are reading this, you have already made the big step to decide to pursue therapy. I hope this profile can help you gauge whether I would be the right fit for you but whatever you decide, I wish you all the best for your journey.

About therapy

People come to therapy for a variety of different reasons, whether it's to seek support in a time of crisis, to figure out why they are not feeling the way they would like to feel, or just to know themselves better. All of these and many more are valid reasons to pursue therapy and I've enjoyed supporting clients in a variety of journeys.

“Therapy is two human beings exploring thoughts together” - Gwen Adshead

I see therapy as a collaborative, curious, non-judgmental, and profoundly human space. It is difficult to explain what therapy is because it is a two-person organism that takes on a unique shape at any given moment in time. Above all, my Gestalt approach sees you as the expert in your own experience and therapy as a space to support and challenge you to heighten your sensitivity to articulate it. This is done through attention to both mind and body, through creativity, and active dialogue between you and I.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
