About me

BACP Accredited Counsellor with a First Class Degree in Psychology and over ten years' experience providing counselling and CBT. I have a special interest in anxiety disorders. I provide supervision for other practitioners and employee counselling for organisations in the North East.  I am a member of the BACP Private Practice Specialist Division and the BACP Workplace Counselling Specialist Division.

I work with people who refer themselves for counselling and people who are referred by their employer. Sessions can be arranged in Jarrow, Newcastle or  via telephone or online methods via video calling.

I am listed on the register of Counsellors and Psychotherapists which is approved by the Professional Standards Authority for Health & Social Care. My certificate number on the register is 082979. This shows that I have reached a recognised level of competent practice which complies fully with BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy) guidelines and ethics.

I have also been awarded Accredited Membership of BACP. This means that I have been assessed by BACP as achieving high standards of knowledge, experience and development. BACP accreditation is awarded through an in-depth application and assessment process.

My counselling training began in 2005 when I was trained by the Samaritans to work on their telephone helpline. Before setting up my private practice in 2014 I provided counselling in a variety of different settings - at a national drug and alcohol service, a charity for families and carers in South Shields and a high school in Newcastle.

I believe that everybody is different and what works for one person does not necessarily work for another so I tailor my approach to suit you. I understand that coming for therapy can be a big step so during your first session I will answer any questions or concerns you may have so you can decide if you would like to begin sessions. Therapy can be short or long term depending on the issues you are facing and your personal requirements.

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
