About me

Something is getting in the way of you living the life you want. Perhaps you’re having strong reactions to situations which you know are about more than just that moment.

Certain things unexpectedly trigger strong emotions: something on the TV; a throwaway comment from a colleague; or a song on the radio. Perhaps you dread specific situations - an upcoming journey, or a meeting at work. Maybe you are aware that ‘stuff’ from the past feels like sludge that impacts how you think, feel and behave; you need to clear it out to move forward.

Whatever your blockage is, you don’t want to be held back by it any more.

I help my clients to feel calmer, more confident, to experience more rewarding relationships, to feel free to make the changes they need to, and to respond to the here and now, not the legacy of their pasts. People often report that, as a result of our work together, they can be the person - friend, parent or partner - they want to be.

I am an experienced integrative psychotherapist: this means I trained in a few different approaches in order to be able to adjust to you as your therapy progresses.

  • Person-centred, focused on creating a non-judgemental and empathetic space, and supporting you to understand what you want and who you really are.
  • Psychodynamic, focused on the ‘presenting past’ - how the past is impacting you now in your life. We might also look at how you relate to yourself and others.
  • Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, where we work to identify triggers, unhelpful beliefs and patterns, and work to actively change thoughts and behaviours.
  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reintegration): an evidence-based therapy endorsed by the WHO, NHS, and NICE. It has been shown to be effective for many issues including PTSD, complex PTSD, anxiety, depression, phobias, and relationship trauma.

I work collaboratively with you, and we are curious together as we figure things out, including which approach is best for you.

If this resonates for you, please send me an email. I aim to respond within 48 hours and will invite you to a free introductory call to see if we think we are a good fit.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

My practice is in a beautiful, private bespoke therapy room in Godalming, close to both train and bus routes.

Online therapy

Around half of my work is online, and I love working this way. It means I can work with people all over the world, and provides great flexibility even to clients who live nearby. It also means that you can snuggle up in a favourite armchair, or with a beloved pet.
