About me

Sometimes we all need a little support. Asking for this can feel challenging, particularly when we're doing our best to appear as though everything is fine, or when we sense something isn't sitting right. Counselling offers a space to gently explore what's really going on, and to find a way forward that feels right for you.

About me

I'm Josephine Hancock, a person-centred counsellor, mindfulness practitioner, and qualified mindfulness teacher.

How I work

My counselling approach is gentle, human, and rooted in real connection. I offer a warm, non-judgemental space where you can explore your inner experience at your own pace. You are welcome to show up just as you are, no need to be a certain way, or to have what you want to say figured out in advance. Through the relationship we build together, your thoughts and feelings can unfold naturally. You won't be pushed or analysed - you'll be met with respect, warmth and a deep trust in your capacity to grow.

Mindfulness

If and when appropriate, I may introduce a short, simple mindfulness practice into our work to slow down and notice thoughts and emotions with greater clarity and awareness. This can make space for a clearer understanding and a steadier way of responding to whatever you feel.

I work with those aged 18 and above online, by phone, or in person from my room in Falmouth, Cornwall.

In addition to volunteering for counselling agencies in Cornwall, my professional life has been shaped by more than 20 years in the NHS, where I supported people navigating illness, injury, and long-term health conditions. Working first in mental health and later in physical rehabilitation helped me understand how complex and interconnected our experiences can be, and how important it is to feel truly seen and supported.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
