About me

People come to therapy for many reasons — anxiety or low mood, loss, relationship difficulties, feeling stuck in familiar patterns, or a sense of disconnection from themselves.

Often, these experiences affect confidence, self-trust and the freedom to be oneself. Therapy offers a space to slow down, reflect, and begin to understand how your experiences have shaped you — and how things might change.

Starting therapy can feel daunting, but I provide a calm, supportive and non-judgemental space where we can work at your pace and focus on what matters most to you.

Who am I?

I’m Joel — a qualified and BACP-Accredited integrative therapist, MBACP (Accred).

My style is warm, grounded and professional. I work relationally and collaboratively, paying close attention to how people experience themselves and others, supporting clients as their confidence and self-trust grow.

How can I help you?

I help adults with confidence and self-esteem difficulties, often alongside anxiety, depression, trauma, depression, loss, stress or relationship issues.

Many of the people I work with appear capable on the outside but struggle internally with self-doubt, shame, people-pleasing or a sense of not being enough.

I also have extensive experience working with:

  • addictions and recovery (including 12-step frameworks)
  • men’s issues
  • *codependency and relationship difficulties

*Codependency refers to patterns of over-focusing on others at the expense of one’s own needs and self-worth.

Where does therapy happen?

I offer:

  • In-person therapy in Clapham, London and Tonbridge, Kent.
  • Outdoor therapy near Sevenoaks, Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells. Many people find that being outdoors supports reflection, grounding and a greater sense of ease in expressing themselves.
  • Online therapy: Meet me wherever you are via Zoom.

What would we do in therapy?

As an integrative therapist, I tailor our work to your individual needs and preferences. Our sessions may involve:

  • exploring how past relationships and experiences have shaped your sense of self
  • noticing patterns of self-criticism, anxiety or over-responsibility
  • developing greater emotional awareness and self-regulation
  • gently building self-trust, boundaries and confidence over time

I draw on humanistic, psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioural and mindfulness-based approaches, as well as creative methods when helpful.

What would be the benefits of our therapy work?

Therapy can support you to develop greater self-awareness, emotional understanding and resilience, as well as new ways of relating to yourself and others.

Many people find that, over time, this leads to increased self-trust, confidence and a greater sense of choice in how they respond to life’s challenges.

How can coaching help in therapy?

I am also a certified professional coach. Some clients choose to integrate coaching sessions after completing therapy, to support future goals, decision-making or life transitions.

Therapy and coaching are distinct approaches, and we would always discuss together what feels most appropriate for your needs.

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
