About me

Life events and experiences can be unpredictable, overwhelming and traumatic at times which can often leave us feeling anxious, angry, depressed, suicidal and alone. I offer a therapeutic space in which to help you work through your difficulties and to process what can often be experienced as very challenging, unmanageable and painful feelings.

I am an experienced, qualified Counsellor and a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I offer therapeutic counselling to both adults and young people facing a wide range of presenting emotional difficulties.

I have an integrative approach, with my roots based primarily in person centred and psychodynamic therapies. Person centred therapy aims to help individuals to develop their potential by offering a compassionate and non-judgemental relationship. Psychodynamic counselling offers a helpful insight into how past experiences need to be resolved before you can live more fully in the present.

I am passionate about counselling and I feel that my empathic nature, unconditional positive regard for others and authenticity creates a warm, welcoming and trusting foundation on which to build a safe, reparative and therapeutic relationship with every client. Where trust and acceptance facilitates opportunity for personal growth and change allowing emotions from the past and present to surface without fear of judgement or criticism.

During therapy, we work together, over a period of time, to untangle the complications that traumatic life experiences cause, with the aim of you feeling more freedom and less emotional burden. I will help you understand yourself and your relationships better by helping you to explore, reflect upon and process your difficult thoughts and feelings.

I work alongside you, at your pace, with the intention of helping you to reach a greater self-awareness and discover the solutions which are right for you. I will not tell you what to do or offer advice as I believe that you are the expert in your own life.

In addition to my private practice, I provide supervision for qualified counsellors and level 4 student counsellors at Talkwell, a Gloucestershire based charity offering counselling to children and young people aged 9-25 years.

I have an enhanced CRB and professional liability insurance.

Location:

I see clients at a comfortable therapy room in Coleford, with plenty of free parking. The counselling I offer can be either time limited, or open ended, to be discussed in the initial session and guided by what is best for you. Sessions usually take place weekly but I am happy to remain flexible to accommodate those with busy lives or who feel that weekly sessions aren't for them.

During an initial assessment session, we can explore what has brought you to therapy and your goals for counselling. This will also enable us to see if we feel comfortable working together. There is no obligation beyond this session to continue.

For further information or to make an appointment please contact me on 07538 216630. If I am unavailable to take your call, please leave your name, number and a brief message, and I will aim to get back to you within 2 working days.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
