About me

Hi, my name is Jo and I am a therapeutic counsellor. I know all too well what it is like to be in your position looking for a therapist and how daunting the whole process is, especially when you are coming along with your existing issues that have brought you here. I have had my own experiences of mental health issues and neurodiversity. I have had to navigate life’s challenges but have done so with the help of various forms of therapy. Therefore, I feel that I can approach our work together from both personal and professional gained experience.

The core of my training is in Person-Centred Counselling meaning you are at the centre of our work together. My aim is to provide you with the right conditions to open up within a confidential, safe and non-judgemental environment helping you to work through your past or present difficulties. My intentions are to focus on your needs, work with you, and to help you move forwards.
I believe that you are the expert in your story and it is my place to help you by being your guide alongside you on your therapeutic journey in overcoming the issues and challenges that you face.

Life is constantly evolving and as we journey through it we find ourselves needing guidance at times in order to help us understand our situation and what we can do to move through life’s difficulties.
It takes a lot of courage in taking these first steps in order to seek changes and create a happier and more fulfilled life. I am here to support and empower you on that journey.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

I would like to invite you to see if I am the right fit for you and to join me in a friendly, safe, confidential and non-judgmental space to explore your issues. I would like to help guide you on your journey towards positive growth.

I offer an initial free 30 minute phone call where you are free to ask any questions and then take your time to make an informed decision as to whether or not you would like to move forward with me as your counsellor and book in an initial session either in-person, via remote video or over the telephone.

I provide concessions so please don't hesitate to enquire about this.

Prior to starting therapy, I would email you a copy of the contract to read through and provide a registration form for you to fill out for emergency situations.

At your first session, I would go through the contract with you to make sure that you consent to all aspects of it, or amend where agreed.

After this, you would then be invited to begin discussing what has brought you to therapy and any desired therapeutic goals and expectations.
