About me

A warm welcome to you! I'm Jo and I’m a counsellor and psychotherapist with a wealth of experience in providing support to clients with a range of difficulties and concerns from relationship difficulties to anxiety, low self-esteem and work related issues to name a few!  (please see all difficulties listed at the bottom of my page).

Whatever your struggle may be, the good news is you’ve taken the first step in making a positive change, and that is why you are currently reading these very words - you are considering counselling and although that may seem scary right now it also may be the best decision you ever made.

I encourage you to take that second step and allow me (or a counsellor of your choosing) to assist you with exploring your struggles and concerns, and together we can navigate through your thoughts and feelings in a warm, safe and non-judgemental environment with the aim of personal growth, nourishment and ultimately being able to live a fuller life.

Working with me: my approach

My  main way of working draws upon the Person-Centred approach to counselling.

Person-Centred counselling believes that each and every person can, and will, become a more fully functioning person if given the correct conditions. The underpinning principles of the Person-Centred Approach are focused on the counsellor being honest, non-judgmental and fully accepting.  I aim to offer these conditions as best as I can during our therapeutic relationship.

This form of therapy is grounded in the idea people are inherently motivated towards achieving positive psychological function.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
