About me
Hello, I'm Joanne. Thank you for stopping to look at my profile, I know there's a lot of counsellors here to choose from and I'm thankful that you've taken some time to look at how I could support you.
It feels as though the world is ever increasing its demands, and as a result of this it's easy to lose yourself in the wilderness of life. You may find shelter in a cave and stay there for many years, but it's cold, dark and lonely and might not be somewhere you really want to be. If only there were some way to get out of the cave and find a pathway out of this place...
That's where I come in. Together, we can create a map with many routes and I will be right beside you whichever one you choose to take. We can look at what tools you might need on your journey and also navigate relationships that may or may not be useful for you as you begin to find your way.
As you can see, I like working with metaphor as I find it useful across all different kinds of difficulties and challenges that I work with, including Anxiety, Depression, Trauma, Abuse, Bereavement and loss, Self-esteem and my particular interests of Disordered Eating, Body Dysmorphia and Endometriosis. I offer both short and long-term therapy for as long as you need.
I offer a free 20 minute consultation via video chat, where we can discuss the types of difficulties you may be facing right now and we can see if we might fit well together. If I'm not the right person for you, we can talk about getting you to the right person or the right service for what you're looking for. If that all sounds good, please get in touch and we can start making plans to help you out of your own cave.

I have previous employment with Mind as a Wellbeing Practitioner where I helped others in a 1:1 setting with all aspects of their wellbeing, including signposting to relevant services and agencies where necessary. While there, I also ran emotional support groups and delivered psychoeducational courses to help others manage their mental health challenges.
I also worked at a local crisis support service during evenings, where my skills were more tailored to de-escalation techniques and strategies to ensure others could keep themselves safe. I worked closely with the Crisis team and CMHT during this time, which promoted a more supportive network of professionals for those who were acutely struggling with their mental health.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
