About me

Welcome, I’m Jo, a counsellor in Banbury and online across the UK.

A lot of the people I work with look like they’re coping from the outside. They’re holding things together, showing up for others, getting on with life, but underneath, they feel overwhelmed, exhausted, disconnected from themselves, or like something just isn’t quite right.

You might be navigating trauma, burnout, anxiety, low self-worth, neurodivergence, or the impact of hormonal change during perimenopause or menopause. You may have spent a long time minimising what you feel, wondering if things are “bad enough,” or telling yourself you should just be coping better than this.

Therapy can offer a space to slow down, make sense of what’s been happening, and feel less alone in it. I offer warm, trauma-informed counselling for adults (18+) in Banbury and online, where you can come as you are, without masking, performing, or having to explain everything perfectly.

How I Work

My counselling style is grounded in person-centred values, which means I aim to offer a relationship that feels safe, respectful, and genuinely human. I won’t force a process onto you or expect you to fit into a rigid way of working. Therapy should adapt to you, not the other way around.

I work relationally and trauma-informed, and where helpful I may bring in ideas from attachment theory, psychoeducation, and psychodynamic thinking. In practice, that means we might explore how past experiences are shaping the present, notice patterns that keep repeating, and gently build more understanding, self-trust, and choice.

I am also a neurodivergent-affirming therapist. Whether you identify as autistic, ADHD, dyspraxic, highly sensitive, or are still exploring that part of yourself, you are welcome here. You do not need to mask, over-explain, or present yourself in a particular way.

Who I Support

People often come to me when they are navigating things like:

Overwhelm, anxiety and burnout

You may feel constantly on edge, emotionally overloaded, exhausted by work or family demands, or stuck in patterns of perfectionism, people-pleasing, or overthinking.

Low mood, shame and self-worth struggles

You may feel flat, disconnected, lonely, stuck, or as though you have lost confidence in yourself. Sometimes this shows up as harsh self-criticism, self-doubt, or never quite feeling “enough.”

Trauma and difficult past experiences

This might include emotional abuse, domestic abuse, discrimination, relational wounds, or experiences that still feel present in your body, relationships, or sense of safety.

Perimenopause, menopause and hormonal change

You may be noticing shifts in mood, identity, emotional regulation, energy, or how much you can hold. Things may suddenly feel harder than they used to, and you may not fully recognise yourself right now.

Neurodivergence and late understanding of yourself

I work with clients around ADHD, autism, dyspraxia, high sensitivity, masking, burnout, and the emotional impact of discovering or exploring neurodivergence later in life.

Relationships, identity and life transitions

This can include separation and divorce, blended family life, affairs and betrayals, ethical non-monogamy, jealousy, race and cultural identity, and those times in life when something no longer fits in the way it once did.

If you’re not sure whether your situation fits neatly into any of these, that’s completely okay. You do not need the perfect words before reaching out.

Practical details

To make things feel as clear and straightforward as possible, I use a system called Konfidens to support booking and communication. If you choose to work with me, you can use it to book sessions, manage appointments, and message securely through a simple client portal.

If you reach out, I’m happy to answer any questions you have first. You do not need to have everything figured out before making contact.

A safe space for you

Counselling is not about fixing you. It is about having space to pause, be met with care, and begin making sense of what you are carrying.

If something in this profile has resonated, you’re welcome to send a short message to say hello or ask any questions before booking. I aim to reply within 12 hours.

We can then start with a first session and see whether working together feels right for you. There is no pressure to commit beyond that.

Take care,

Jo

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a qualified counsellor with a CPCAB Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling. I am registered with the BACP & NCPS and am also a graduate member of the BPS.

Alongside my counselling training, I hold a BSc (Hons) in Psychology from Oxford Brookes University, and I am currently completing a MSc in Psychology and Trauma (Adults). This further study deepens my specialist understanding of trauma and continues to inform my work with clients.

Additional Training and Continuing Professional Development

I have completed training in online and telephone counselling, allowing me to offer therapy safely and ethically both in person and remotely.

My continuing professional development includes training in attachment theory, psychodynamic approaches, trauma-informed practice, neuro-affirming practice, and a Level 2 certificate in substance misuse.

My work often supports clients around anxiety, burnout, trauma, neurodivergence, hormonal change, shame, identity, and self-worth.

Alongside my private practice, I also work with a local Oxford-based charity, providing low-cost counselling for adults navigating homelessness and other significant life challenges.

I am fully insured, and attend regular clinical supervision.

Before we begin, I will send you my payment and cancellation terms so everything is clear and transparent.

If you feel unsure about starting counselling, you are welcome to book an initial paid session and then decide from there whether working together feels right for you. There is no obligation to continue.
