About me

I am an Integrative Counsellor and Supervisor and I see clients and Supervisees in person in my room in Welwyn village, or online via Zoom or on the telephone. I work by establishing a good therapeutic relationship with my clients that is built on trust. I encourage my clients to reflect on their behaviour and their emotional responses, helping them to better understand the connection between thoughts, feelings, actions, and behaviour.

I help my clients to challenge negative thought patterns and develop strategies for coping with difficult situations and the feelings these evoke.
Currently I see clients in Welywn at Welywn Counselling which is based at the Welywn Chiropractic clinic. As an Integrative Counsellor I draw upon various Counselling traditions and methods, combining them in a way that best suits the individual needs of my clients.

I came originally from a teaching background and worked in Primary Education as a class teacher and Special Needs Co-ordinator for almost 20 years. Whilst working as a special need advisory teacher I became much more interested in how best to support individual learners on a 1:1 basis.

My focus has always been on how to help individuals reach their own personal potential, not just educationally but more broadly in their whole life. This led me to become more interested in supporting others in being the best that they can be in their relationship with themselves and others. I believe that we all strive for personal happiness and wholeness and 1:1 Counselling can provide a unique opportunity for supporting this, particularly when we become stuck or find ourselves dealing with difficult circumstances and emotions.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
