About me

Before becoming a counsellor I have been a nurse for many years. I know how to build connections with people and support them through painful experiences. There are events in life which need to be recovered from and I use my skills in creating a warm and welcoming, comfortable space in which my clients can do that. I use a person-centred approach which means the clients lead the sessions where they feel they need to go but I am an active participant in our time together, I will bring my perspective and understanding of what comes up in our sessions and we’ll work together to learn and grow from what we discover. Therapy is a partnership first and foremost and I encourage my clients to use the space to learn about themselves as individuals but also themselves as they are in relationships by using the relationship that we develop between us. My bread and butter in sessions is learning and practicing self compassion; as I see it when we nurture ourselves especially the parts of ourselves that are in pain, we begin the process of soothing our own selves and meeting needs in ourselves which have been left unmet often for a very long time. My clients and I often laugh, it’s been known for there to be singing in my sessions, we’ve sometimes sat sprawled on the floor, I want my clients to feel able to let it all hang out whatever way feels right for them in that moment. If this sounds like an environment that might suit you do email me and we’ll arrange a time to meet. I aim to respond to all enquiries within 24 hours Monday - Friday.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
