About me

I work with individuals and couples from all walks of life and with many varied concerns. I understand that contacting a counsellor may seem daunting but it is the first step toward positive change, understanding, and feeling better. You don’t have to suffer in silence, bottle it up or go it alone.

With over 20 years of experience as a counsellor and psychotherapist I offer confidential, supportive, and effective counselling and a calm, safe atmosphere in which to explore your concerns constructively without being judged.

You can work with me in-person in my consulting room in Leigh, or online via Whatsapp video call or Zoom. Please see my website for more information.

If you are unsure if counselling is for you feel free to explore my website or to phone or email me with any questions you may have. www.counsellorleighonsea.co.uk  Email: jan.a.chant@gmail.com                      Call or text: 0794 700 5629.

I'm a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP) with over 20 years experience. I work to the BACP Framework for Ethical Practice and am committed to ongoing professional and personal development.

As a British Wheel of Yoga Teacher, my deep understanding of the connection between mind, body, behaviour and emotions enhances my work as a counsellor. It also means that I am able to offer effective techniques to help you to help yourself in cases of anxiety or stress (without you having to take up yoga).

I have specialist training and much experience in working with individuals and couples.

I have trained to work with trauma and integrate somatic (body-based) approaches with 'talk therapy'. These methods are safe and powerful and do not involve physical touch.

There is more information on my website www.counsellorleighonsea.co.uk

I have undertaken OCTIA training in on-line counselling.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
