About me

You don't need to fit yourself into a box before coming to therapy - whether you are experiencing anxiety, overwhelm or just don't know where to start, together we can work at your own pace to explore what's been difficult and find ways of coping that feel realistic and manageable for you.

I have particular experience supporting people affected by trauma, including domestic and sexual abuse for both men and women, as well as trans and non-binary folks. I work from a trauma informed perspective with issues such as self-harm, neurodiversity, chronic illness as well as a range of other concerns or experiences.

I work integratively, which brings together experience and knowledge from multiple therapeutic modalities, ensuring the focus is on your and your needs, prioritising your safety and comfort in the therapeutic relationship.

Therapy can allow a space to feel heard and understood, without any pressure or expectation to change or 'fix' (though sometimes that can be what is wanted). Together we can find ways ways to improve your relationship with yourself as well as with others and make sense of difficult emotions and experiences.

You are welcome to get in touch with any questions you might have about therapy or how we might work together, or to book in an initial session to see if this is the right step for you.

Training, qualifications & experience

My journey into counselling has been shaped by many years working within education as a teacher and support worker, charities and therapeutic settings.

I am trained to postgraduate level with a Level 7 in Counselling and Coaching from the University of East London. My training background also includes Levels 2 and 3 CPCAB courses, a Diploma in working with children and young people, a PGCE and degrees in mental health recovery, psychology and philosophy.

I specialise in working with trauma, including childhood sexual abuse and domestic and sexual violence, and also have extensive training and experience working with self-harm and suicidal ideation, pre-trial therapy, GSRD affirmative practice and depression and anxiety.

I am a Professional Accredited Member of the NCPS, and have an up to date enhanced DBS and Level 5 certificate in safeguarding children and vulnerable adults.

NCPS
National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society (NCPS)

The National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society This Not For Profit association of counsellors and psychotherapists aim to support the counselling profession, members and training organisations. In 2013 the NCS register was accredited by the Professional Standards Authority under the Accredited Voluntary Register Scheme. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Wheelchair user access
Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.

My garden office is on the ground floor and can be made wheelchair/powerchair accessible, though unfortunately there are no accessible toilet facilities.
