About me

Hi, I’m Jamie-Lee. I’m a counsellor based in Dundee. Welcome to my profile. I understand that reaching out for counselling can feel daunting, so well done for taking that first step.

I’m a warm, compassionate and approachable counsellor who believes that feeling seen and heard is important. I will listen without judgement, take the time to understand you and together we can find a way to help make things feel a little bit easier.

Life can feel overwhelming at times, and it can be difficult to put ourselves first or make sense of what we’re feeling. Sometimes we can feel stuck or struggle to see past what is happening right now. I aim to offer you a space where you can take a little moment to focus on you. A space to pause, connect with how you’re feeling and talk openly about what you might need.

If you don't know exactly how you feel, or even what you need, then that’s okay. Sometimes, simply knowing that things don’t feel quite right and reaching out for support is enough. We can take the time to make sense of what’s going on and work through it together, in a way that feels comfortable for you.

I work pluralistically, which means my sessions are flexible. I don’t believe there is one “right” way to do counselling. Everyone is different, and what works for one person might not feel right for another. What works for you in one session might not feel helpful in the next, and again, that’s okay. We can explore what feels most helpful for you and adapt our sessions along the way.

I offer all new clients a free 20–30 minute online consultation for both adults and young people. Parents and carers are welcome to join. This gives you the chance to get to know me, ask any questions you might have and get a feel for whether working together feels right for you, before deciding to start sessions together.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a qualified Pluralistic Counsellor, with a Degree in Psychology and Counselling and an MSc in Counselling from Abertay University.

I have experience supporting  people with anxiety, low mood, bereavement, baby loss, life changes and self-esteem.

I also have experience as a School Counsellor, supporting young people with a range of emotional, social and personal difficulties. My previous experience working within a residential setting has also given me an understanding of supporting young people with more complex needs. I also hold an HNC in Early Education and Childcare, giving me an additional foundation in child development and supporting children and young people.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
