About me
Hello, I am James, from Adult Counselling Therapy Ltd (ACT). I offer a safe and supportive space to help you to explore and navigate life's challenges either in-person or via online sessions.
I understand you might be feeling overwhelmed presently, and life may be difficult to the point you don't know where to turn, or you might be struggling to make sense of what is going on for you.
I am passionate about helping improve mental health. I believe that with the right support, you can break free from limiting beliefs, heal past wounds, and create a fulfilling life.
If you are ready to take the step, I am ready to support you.
Practice Description - Adult Counselling Therapy Ltd is a one-to-one, fully insured counselling service based in Stockbridge, in the heart of the Test Valley, between Winchester, Andover, Romsey and Salisbury. The relaxed purpose built setting enables you to share personal problematic or traumatic experiences, thoughts and feelings, in a safe and confidential environment (see privacy and confidentiality page for details at www.adultcounsellingtherapy.co.uk).
First Session - The first session will include a review of our working contract and I will ask you to complete an overview assessment form (Core10) which involves answering ten quick questions to help me understand the current difficulties you are experiencing. I will also ask you to complete the same form during our final session together, to monitor the progress made.
If during the session there is a clear need for additional specific counselling help, I would always take the ethical position to provide you with opportunities to attain further help and provide suitable information to make those arrangements.
What I can help with - Abuse, Anxiety, Bereavement, Depression, Health related issues, Identity issues, Loss, Personal development, Post-traumatic stress, Relationships, Self-esteem, Service veterans, Stress, Work related issues. Sometimes multiple problems might be linked, and we can work through things together to explore what your needs are and how I can help you with them.
Types of therapy - Humanistic (a focus on your ability to develop and reach your full potential), Integrative (using a combination of approaches to help you), Person centred (focusing on your experience of yourself), Relational (focusing on the therapeutic relationship between you and your counsellor to promote exploration of problem thoughts, feelings and behaviours), Transactional analysis (my main modality - improves self-awareness through understanding your identity and how you relate to others. Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
