About me

Hello, I am James, the founder of Adult Counselling Therapy Limited (A.C.T.) and the 'Book a Rant' service. I am a supporter of people who commit to improving their mental health. Together, let's explore what challenges you.

I understand you might be feeling overwhelmed presently, and that life may be difficult to the point you don't know where to turn. I want to encourage you to have the courage to talk about your problems and challenges with a therapist. It really can be a life changing process.

To reassure you, I believe we are never the finished article. I continue to develop myself via regular supervision. This means I am both meeting the requirements of my professional body and I am able to provide you with a consistent ethical service that enables you to develop in your own way.

So A.C.T. now and change your life for the better!

To access the 'Book a Rant' service go to my website www.adultcounsellingtherapy.co.uk and navigate through the pages for full details, however, the process in short, is as follows: -

  1. Make contact via the website or direct email.
  2. You will receive a 'Book a Rant' registration form for completion and return.
  3. I will ring you on the number you provide and let you know if I am able to provide you with counselling. We can then arrange the time and day of the week, for your regular slot.
  4. Payment/Cancellation/Confidentiality/Other Policies are available on the website (www.adultcounsellingtherapy.co.uk).

Practice description -

The attractiveness of my 'Book a Rant' counselling service with Adult Counselling Therapy Limited is the provision for sharing personal problematic or traumatic experiences, thoughts and feelings, in a safe and confidential environment (see privacy and confidentiality page for details at www.adultcounsellingtherapy.co.uk).

I am passionate about helping others with the use of counselling therapy. My hope, is that you will leave our counselling therapy sessions feeling you have off-loaded stress and identified more positive and sustainable ways forward. I am confident that you will feel able to tackle life with an improved awareness and understanding of your thoughts, feelings and behavioural processes.

My extensive work based experience, linked with varied personal experience make me someone who can listen to you without judgement, without opinion and with unconditional positive regard, congruence and empathy. I can help you navigate and process what is going on for you and I will provide you with tools to continue to improve your self-awareness.

Adult Counselling Therapy Ltd is a one-to-one counselling service. I hold appropriate insurance cover for the counselling services I provide, and the location of my wonderful purpose built practice room is in the heart of the Test Valley in Stockbridge, Hampshire.

My 'Book a Rant' counselling service is for anyone over the age of 18 and my client's well-being is at the heart of my counselling service. Please go to my website www.adultcounsellingtherapy.co.uk for further details including terms of service.

First Session - The first session will include a review of our contract and I will ask you to complete an overview assessment form (Core10) which involves answering ten quick questions to help me understand the current difficulties you are experiencing. I will also ask you to complete the same form during our final session together, to monitor the progress made.

If during the session there is a clear need for additional specific counselling help, I would always take the ethical position to provide you, the client, with opportunities to attain further help and provide suitable information to make those arrangements.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
