About me
I believe there is no reason why we can't all live enjoyable, meaningful lives. Unfortunately, for reasons often out of our control, we can get blown off course. As a qualified Counselling Psychologist, I consider it a great privilege to work with people who are struggling with their emotional and mental health. I place the therapeutic relationship at the centre of my practice. Only when we feel safe is there room to grow.
I blend a variety of therapeutic approaches in my work, including Person Centred Therapy and various types of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, depending on what a person may need or prefer. Counselling Psychology takes a humanistic perspective on distress - this means that while I understand that for some people diagnosis and medication are important, I prefer to develop an individualised understanding of a person's distress instead of labelling it. As I often say to people, awareness is choice: if we understand what we feel and why, then we have the knowledge to do something about it, rather than seek to control or avoid those feelings.
I have experience in various mental health settings, having worked in the NHS, third sector organisations, and in public sector occupational health teams. I have experience working with PTSD/trauma, alongside other difficulties including relationship problems, anxiety, depression, bipolar, bereavement, OCD, psychosis, and more. I offer private practice work in addition to an employed role working with the emergency services.
Alongside my professional practice, I am passionate about social justice, community-building, and the role of housing and social connection in supporting mental health. My work is proudly LGBTQ+ friendly, and I welcome people of all backgrounds.
Training, qualifications & experience
I hold a doctorate in Counselling Psychology (DCPsych) from the University of Manchester. I also hold a Master's in Applied Clinical Psychology (MSc; Distinction) from the University of Bath, and a BSc in Psychology from the University of East Anglia.

Additional information
My normal session fee is £95 including taxes. I believe that therapy is best when time-limited, and will be open with you at the start of therapy how many sessions are likely to be appropriate. I believe costs shouldn’t be a barrier to getting support, so I offer a limited number of reduced-fee places for people on lower incomes. Please do ask if this applies to you.
