About me
I am a warm, experienced, BACP accredited psychotherapist, EMDR therapist, supervisor and trainer who works with adults and young people between 12-18.
Seeking counselling can be one of the most important and life changing decisions you can make. Sharing your worries and fears with someone who will be able to help you understand yourself and explore what has happened to you can be transformational.
I consider emotional and mental distress to be the result of creative adjustments made to manage difficult life circumstances. By this, I mean that we do not suffer simply as a result of biology, genetics or illness, but due to our social context, personal life experiences, and how we make sense of the world. Rather than asking, 'what is wrong with you?', I often prefer to ask, 'what has happened to you?
From a personal and professional perspective, I understand that considering counselling for any reason may not be easy. You may be seeking support with a specific issue, such as feelings of anxiety, low mood or relationship problems. Equally, you may know you are not happy with aspects of your life but feel unsure of what you need to move forward.
Over time, you may have developed ways of managing your life and emotions which are no longer helpful. These often unconscious, old, patterns may be creating difficulties in the present with relationships, work or wellbeing, causing unhappiness and anxiety.
You may want to see me when facing life transitions such as the arrival of a baby, marriage, divorce, children leaving home, menopause or retirement and the changes these events bring to your life.
As an EMDR therapist, I can integrate this method into our sessions if we both feel it would be helpful. EMDR is a well researched and highly effective way of working with trauma and PTSD as well as anxiety, low self confidence and depression.
I aim to create a compassionate, inclusive, empowering environment in which you can explore the concerns that have brought you to counselling. I believe that given the right support, every person will move towards a more satisfying and authentic way of living. You will receive warmth, empathy and genuineness as we work together.
I am GSRD and LGBTQI+ affirmative.
I have particular experience in working with teachers and education professionals, women in mid-life, young people, parents of adult children and siblings of people with severe mental illness. (Please see my article about this if it is of interest to you).
All are welcome. Please feel free to get in touch for an initial conversation or visit my website and blog if you'd like to find out more about me and how I work. You can be assured of a prompt response to your message.

Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
