About me

I'm Ian, welcome. I'm an experienced therapist and will provide a warm, safe place for you to talk and confide openly.

I practice in Hove and Lewes and specialise in working with people struggling with alcohol and other substances, or addictive behaviours like sex and gambling. This can affect our self-esteem, can bring on low mood, suicidal thoughts and shame. It can affect our relationships and work, and can send us into a very negative spiral downwards.

I've my own personal experience which, along with a Masters degree, inform how I help you. My work is compassionate with genuine empathy, and evidence based, to help my clients overcome these very difficult feelings and find a solid way forward.

If you feel lost, that you need some help figuring things out, I'd say you are in the right place.

I'm established and local, and one of just a few appropriately qualified to work with addiction. Of course I'm also BACP registered.

It was my past too. It affected my family and my work and took me to a very low place, and that is why I qualified specifically to help in this very complex area of therapy.

Talking about these feelings is vital, and I'll be able to give you a safe space, non-threatening and non-judgemental, where you can open up about your fears and worries and talk 1:1 about how things are for you, with someone who understands, someone who has been there himself. We'll talk this through in a compassionate, non-judgemental way and we'll help you find the goals and outcomes that are right for you.

Should we need them, I have connections with top treatment centres both in the UK and abroad and I am a treatment continuation therapist for clients exiting certain treatment centres too.

My clients can be 'in-person' at either of my therapy rooms in Hove or Lewes (East Sussex), or online for those living abroad or out of area in different parts of the UK.

My experiences have brought me a long way, and my masters study into addiction psychology and counselling enable me to be of help ethically.

Over time, we'll improve self-esteem and self-respect, build stronger boundaries and firmer, consistently steady relationships, and get work back on track, more successful than ever.

I hope to welcome you.

Please get in touch, don't suffer alone.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
