About me

I'm Holly (she/her), a therapist based in Leith, Edinburgh. I work with people carrying pain rooted in how the world sees them - their race, disability, neurodivergence, body, or identity. I also work with individuals navigating grief, anxiety, relationship difficulties, and childhood trauma. I offer in-person therapy sessions in Leith and online sessions to individuals living throughout the UK.

My Values

  • LGBTQIA+ / GSRD affirming
  • feminist killjoy
  • committed to questioning normativity

Anti-oppressive practice means holding your experiences in context - making connections to how pain emerges within systems and spaces that were never built for you. I work with the understanding that the therapy room is a reflection of the wider world around us. Our work can become about more than making sense of these injustices - but finding ways to move through and beyond them.

As someone mixed-race, multicultural, and from an immigrant family, I bring a personal understanding of feeling labelled and othered. I practice with radical openness - meeting each individual I work with exactly as they are. Therapy can be a space to examine how you have adjusted to injustice or harm, and to begin transforming those experiences together.

If any of this resonates, I would love to hear from you. I offer a free 15-minute introductory call - a chance to ask questions, share where you are, and explore whether we might be a good fit. You can book into my calendar through my website at Leith Therapy Collective.

Training, qualifications & experience

  • Master of Counselling - University of Edinburgh
  • Bachelor of Music Therapy - Berklee College of Music
    • Board-Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC)

Prior Training

Before my training as a psychotherapist, I practiced in the United States as a music therapist with individuals of all ages. I worked with neurodivergence, grief, trauma, and more.

I underwent clinical placements at Hope Park Counselling Centre, working with individuals aged 16+ & Saheliya, a specialist mental health and well-being support organization for black, minority ethnic, asylum seeker, refugee and migrant women and girls.

Where I Am Now

I am part of the Leith Therapy Collective, a group of practitioners centering anti-oppressive, difference-affirmative practice. We work with the realities of multicultural, neurodivergent, racial, class, gender, queer, trans, disability, size, and relational difference. I am a part of this collective because I believe as therapists we cannot remain 'neutral' without causing harm.

I am also a part of Connections Counselling, offering more affordable therapy within core values of accessibility, empathy and inclusion.

I also currently volunteer as a counsellor with grief and bereavement at St. Columba's Hospice Care & I am a specialist mental health mentor for neurodivergent students within the further education setting.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
