About me

Person-Centred Counselling for Anxiety, Trauma & Life Changes. A safe, compassionate space to understand yourself and feel more like you. For adults and young people (11+).

About To Be Me Therapy:

I’m Helen and I started To Be Me Therapy to create a safe therapeutic space to pause, reflect and explore whatever is happening for you, right now.

Always at the heart of my work is the question

"What does it mean to be me?"

Counselling with me supports you to explore that question with compassion, curiosity and without judgement, and always at your own pace.

How I Work

I offer face-to-face sessions for adults and young people (11+) in Falmouth and Truro, and online across the UK.

Each session lasts 60 minutes, with no set number. Some people will benefit from just a few sessions, while others choose longer-term counselling. We can review this together as we go.

At the heart of good therapy is a trusting relationship, where you can be yourself and feel understood.

Finding the right counsellor is so important, and can feel like a big step.

My aim is to offer a calm, supportive space to talk openly, without feeling judged or like you need to have everything figured out first.

My Type of Counselling

I'm a person-centred counsellor, which just means that I believe you are the expert on your own life. Rather than offering advice or telling you what you should do, I work alongside you to help you make sense of your experiences and discover what feels right for you.

I work with clients experiencing a wide range of difficulties, including

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Grief and Loss
  • Trauma
  • Relationship challenges
  • Stress
  • Low self-esteem
  • Life changes and transitions
  • Identity issues
  • Living with health conditions

What To Expect From Counselling

Sometimes people come with a clear reason for seeking counselling, while others simply know that something doesn't feel right and feel somehow stuck.

Whatever brings you here, that's where we'll begin.

I do my best to ensure my practice is inclusive and affirming. I welcome people from all backgrounds, cultures, genders, sexual orientations and identities, and I'm committed to providing a space where everyone feels respected, valued and safe.

I am trained and experienced in supporting people affected by emotional trauma, domestic and sexual abuse, and I work as a counsellor and mentor with domestic abuse charities.

I offer neurodivergence-affirming counselling. I work collaboratively with clients to understand their unique experiences, accommodate differences in communication and information processing, and support wellbeing in ways that feel authentic to each individual person.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
