About me

Hi there! Thank you for looking at my profile. :)

I’m Harriet. I use she/her pronouns, and I am a trauma-informed, person-centred counsellor offering an empathetic, compassionate, and non-judgemental space for you to be heard in. Together we can explore how life is for you, what you might want to process and heal from, and how you might want to exist in the world.

Yours is an individual, unique experience, ‘as no one else can know how we perceive, we are the best experts on ourselves’ (Rogers, 1961). By providing the conditions for you to express yourself how you wish to, I serve you by encouraging you to be as authentically yourself as possible, being curious with issues you may be going through. I do this by deep listening, reflecting back how I understand your communication, and at times, when appropriate, gently challenging thought patterns that may not be helpful.

I do not offer advice or tell you what to do or how to be, but hold space for you to be who you are in the present. I can ask questions if you initially find talking challenging. We can also explore other ways of communicating, such as sounds, gestures, writing, movements, and other creative, metaphorical, and alternative ways of expression.

It’s important that you access the right counsellor for you, as a healthy counsellor-client relationship is important for therapy. I offer a free 20-minute initial telephone session for us both to get a sense of each other. Please get in touch if you are interested in working with me.

Training, qualifications & experience

  • Diploma in Person-Centred Counselling from The Norwich Centre, a BACP-accredited course.

I work both in private practice and for a local charity offering counselling. I have over 15 years' experience serving the mental health needs of individuals and communities within various therapeutically minded roles. I also have a creative background with an interest in how all manner of art practices can support healing processes.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
