About me

Online (across the UK)/Face to Face counselling for stress, burnout, anxiety,

Counselling for stress, burnout, anxiety, ADHD, menopause, life transitions and relationship difficulties.

I offer a free 20 minute introductory call where we can talk about what you are looking for and whether I might be the right person to support you.  There's no obligation or pressure to book a session.

Hi, my name is Gill and I am a BACP registered therapist working with young people aged 16+ and adults.

Perhaps you've reached a point where life is feeling more difficult than usual.  You may feel exhausted by trying to hold everything together, struggling to switch off.  You may find that anxiety, stress or low self-esteem is affecting how you feel about yourself or your relationships.

You might be constantly questioning yourself, comparing yourself to others or struggling to recognise your own worth.  Perhaps you are exhausted from navigating life with ADHD or you are suddenly finding yourself in the midst of the menopause and the changes that come with it.

You don't have to make sense of everything before you come to counselling.  Whatever brought you here we can begin to make sense of it together, starting wherever you are.

Choosing to access counselling can be a difficult decision, but whatever brings you to counselling, I aim to provide a safe, confidential,                        non-judgemental space for you.  Building a trusting counselling relationship through compassion and understanding is at the heart of my practice.  I want  you to feel comfortable, listened to and able to be fully you.

As the counselling relationship develops, I will work with you to explore what has brought you to therapy and what you would like to understand, explore or change.

I don't believe that counselling should be one size fits all.  As an integrative therapist I draw on different approaches depending on what feels most helpful for you and what we discover together.

Through my own experience of counselling I know that taking that first step can feel daunting.  I also know how powerful it can be to have a space where you can speak openly without fear of judgement.  A space where you can begin to understand yourself differently.

I work within the BACP professional standards and  regularly undertake additional training to ensure that my practice continues to develop.

My background as a qualified Nurse with 28 years experience within the NHS has given me a deep understanding of people and the challenges life can bring.  Throughout my career, I have supported people through some of their most vulnerable and difficult times, including providing mental health support to nurses.

I have also worked within Community Mental Health offering short and long-term support to people experiencing emotional and psychological difficulties.

This wealth of experience continues to shape my work as a counsellor.  It has given me valuable insight, compassion and an appreciation of how important it is to feel truly heard, understood and supported.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a qualified Counsellor with Level 2 and Level 3 Certificates in counselling, alongside a Foundation Degree In Counselling. I am also a Registered member of the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapy (BACP), working within its professional and ethical standards.

I am committed to continued personal development, accessing counselling when needed. I also have a commitment to continued professional development and have accessed further training for Neurodivergence, Menopause, Trauma, Suicide awareness, Anger Management, Safeguarding Adults and Children and LGBTQIA+ awareness.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
