About me
You might look like you're coping on the outside, but inside it can feel overwhelming. Perhaps your mind never switches off, you find yourself overthinking, or you feel stuck in patterns that leave you anxious or drained.
I’m Gillian, a pluralistic counsellor and psychotherapist based in Edinburgh. I offer a calm, confidential space where you can slow down, explore what’s going on, and begin to make sense of your thoughts and feelings in a way that feels right for you.
I see counselling as a collaborative process built on trust. My pluralistic approach means I tailor therapy to you, drawing on different methods to suit your needs, rather than expecting you to fit a single way of working. Together, we can find an approach that feels helpful and meaningful for you.
I work with adults (18+) both in person and online, offering a flexible and supportive space where you can feel heard, respected, and understood.
If you’re considering counselling, you’re welcome to get in touch to see if we might be a good fit.
Training, qualifications & experience
Before training as a therapist, I worked in professional, high pressure environments. I have experience and an understanding of the challenges of balancing expectations, responsibilities, and wellbeing. I especially support people who are used to coping on their own and may find it hard to ask for help.
I have experience in supporting individuals through a wide range of emotional and life challenges. My work has included supporting people to manage:
- Anxiety, stress, and overthinking
- Burnout or work related pressures
- Life transitions and uncertainty
- Feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected from yourself
- Relationship or interpersonal difficulties
I am a volunteer counsellor and Trustee with PF Counselling Services in Edinburgh, and I continue to develop my practice through regular supervision and ongoing professional development.
My counselling qualifications are: an MSc Counselling from Abertay University (BACP Accredited Course) and a COSCA Certificate in Counselling Skills from Edinburgh College. In addition to this I have a MSc Business with Information Technology from Edinburgh Napier University, and a BA (Hons) Commerce with Information Management from Glasgow Caledonian University.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
