About me
Welcome to Ribble Valley Counselling
Hi, I’m Georgina, an MBACP counsellor and qualified MBABCP Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner. I offer counselling to adults and young people across Lancashire and throughout the UK.
I currently work within NHS Talking Therapies, supporting people with a range of emotional and psychological difficulties. This experience has given me a broad understanding of the challenges people can face, alongside a warm, compassionate and professional approach.
I aim to create a space where you can feel comfortable being open and honest, without fear of judgement. I work integratively and in a trauma-informed way, drawing on different therapeutic approaches to meet your individual needs, while recognising how past experiences can shape how we feel, think and relate to others.
You may be struggling with anxiety, low mood, overthinking or feeling emotionally drained. Perhaps you’re finding relationships difficult, being hard on yourself, or carrying feelings of shame that are difficult to talk about. Whatever brings you to counselling, we can take time to understand what you’re experiencing without pressure to have everything figured out.
I believe you are the expert in your own life. My role is not to tell you what to do, but to support you in developing greater self-understanding, recognising patterns and building confidence in yourself and your choices.
I work with a range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction, OCD, neurodiversity, shame, bereavement and loss, and relationship difficulties.
Starting counselling can feel daunting, especially when you’re unsure where to begin. You don’t need to have the right words or know exactly what you need. We can start where you are and take things one step at a time.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and a member of the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP).
I am also a qualified and practising Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (PWP), currently delivering NHS Talking Therapies, supporting adults experiencing a range of common mental health difficulties.
I offer online, face-to-face and telephone sessions, giving you the choice of what feels most comfortable. Online and telephone sessions can offer flexibility around work, home and other commitments, while face-to-face sessions provide a private and welcoming space away from the demands of everyday life.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information
Taking the first step towards counselling can feel daunting, so I want the process to feel as comfortable and straightforward as possible.
I offer a free initial consultation, usually by telephone. This is an opportunity for us to have an informal conversation, for you to ask any questions and share as much or as little as you feel comfortable with. It also gives us both the chance to see whether we feel like a good fit. There is no obligation to book further sessions and no charge for this conversation.
If you decide to continue, our first full session is a chance to begin getting to know one another and to think about what has brought you to counselling. We can talk about what you’ve been experiencing, what you would like support with and what you hope to gain from therapy. We can then agree together on how we might work towards this.
I may also ask you to complete a short assessment at the beginning of our work. This helps me build a clearer picture of how things are for you and ensures that the support I provide is appropriate and safe.
You never have to talk about anything before you feel ready. I understand that opening up can take time, and building trust is an important part of our work together. There is no expectation that you need to have everything worked out before coming to therapy.
Sessions are available online via a secure platform, by telephone, or face-to-face where possible, giving you flexibility to choose what works best for you.
If you’re thinking about counselling and would like to have a chat first, you’re very welcome to get in touch. We can take it from there, one step at a time.
