About me

With over 12 years in practice, I bring both depth of experience and a warm, grounded approach to every session.

Couple Therapy

As an experienced therapist specialising in relationship work, I provide a calm, supportive space where couples can safely explore the challenges affecting their connection. Drawing on training and years of experience supporting individuals and couples, my approach blends compassion, clarity and therapeutic models. Whether you are navigating conflict, distance, betrayal, communication difficulties or the impact of life transitions, my role is to help you understand what sits beneath the surface and guide you toward healthier patterns of relating.

Couples Counselling – Gayle Hammill

Psychotherapeutic Couples Therapist – Tring & Online

Relationships can be one of the most meaningful parts of our lives – but they can also become places where we feel misunderstood, distant, or stuck in painful patterns.

Many couples come to therapy feeling they are having the same argument again and again, struggling to communicate, or wondering whether their relationship can recover after a difficult period.

Couples counselling provides a safe and structured space where both partners can slow things down, feel heard, and begin to understand what is happening beneath the conflict.

I work with couples to explore the deeper dynamics that may be affecting the relationship, helping partners move from blame and defensiveness towards greater understanding and connection.

Why couples seek therapy

Couples often reach out when their relationship has reached a difficult point, such as:

  • Communication breakdown
  • Repeated arguments or conflict
  • Infidelity or breaches of trust
  • Emotional distance or loss of connection
  • Parenting pressures and family stress
  • Life transitions affecting the relationship
  • Neurodiversity within the relationship (ADHD / ASD)
  • Loss, illness, or external stress impacting the partnership

Sometimes couples come to repair and rebuild, while others want support in understanding whether and how the relationship can move forward.

Both are valid paths.

My approach to couples work.

My approach is psychotherapeutic, relational, and collaborative.

In sessions, we explore:

  • How each partner experiences the relationship
  • Patterns of communication and conflict
  • Attachment and emotional needs within the partnership
  • The impact of past experiences and family dynamics
  • Rather than focusing on who is “right” or “wrong”, therapy helps us understand what is
  • Happening between you and why those patterns may have developed

From this understanding, couples can begin to develop new ways of relating, communicating and reconnecting.

What to expect

Couples therapy usually begins with an initial joint assessment session where we explore your relationship history and the challenges you are currently facing.

This is followed by individual sessions with each partner to understand your personal perspective and goals for therapy.

From there, we begin the therapeutic work together.

Sessions provide a balanced and neutral space, where both partners are supported to speak openly and be heard.

About me

I have over a decade of experience working as a psychotherapeutic counsellor supporting adults, couples and families within private practice.

Alongside my clinical work, I lead a counselling practice and supervise therapists, and I have a particular interest in working with:

  • Relationship dynamics
  • Trauma and its impact on relationships
  • Neurodivergence within couples
  • Complex family situations

My aim is to offer a calm, thoughtful and supportive space where couples can explore difficult issues safely and begin to move towards greater clarity and connection.

Times I work

  • Mon- Wed- Session times are from 2pm - 7pm - last session time 6pm.

Sessions

  • Couples sessions are 60 minutes and typically begin weekly.

Taking the first step

Reaching out for couples therapy can feel daunting. Many couples worry that therapy means their relationship has failed.
